So Here's the Question: IF McCain had to drop out This weekend
let's say health reasons), would the RNC put Sarah Palin (Caribou Barbie) at the top of the ticket?

If not - why would she be any more qualified to take over 6 months from now?

Republicans really should be insulted by this choice. Thinking patriotic Republicans should be scared to death

1. She'd move to the top and Darth Cheney would slide into the Veep seat.
Then it would really be "new boss, same as the old boss."

3. Wouldn't that be a sweet ticket?
Goodie Sarah as the "homespun" mouthpiece, giving the "aw shucks" spin to whatever new atrocity Cheney and his archdemon cronies cook up.

4. I've been wondering about that myself...
aside from a "Weekend at Bernie's" scenario, according to procedural guidelines, how would that work?

6. The fair way to do it
would be to go to the person who came in second in the primaries. They were running for President to begin with and actually got votes not an appointment. Who would that be Romney?

8. There is a procedural answer I'm sure...I found it.

Worst comes to worst, I'll send an email to both party committees...because I am curious actually what their policy is and what the DNC's is.

UPDATE: They have a new convention with the same delegates and elect a new one.

RULE NO. 4
Vacancies

(c) In the event of the death, resignation, disqualification, or disability of any officer of the Republican National Committee or member of a committee of the Republican National Committee, as enumerated in the Rules, such vacancy shall be filled by the same body and in the same manner as provided therein for the election of such officer or officers or committee members in the first instance.

9. The possibility of a Rovian trick to get rid of McCain just occurred to me today.
What if this whole Palin fiasco is part of a Rove trick to discredit McCain and replace him with someone more to Bushco's liking? Yeah, I know. My tin foil beanie is at the drycleaners so I'm wearing my tin foil sombrero today.

10. I think Romney and Huckabee would assert that they had

standing to get the pres nod as they had delegates committed to them from the primaries. There would be an outcry for a new mini-convention to pcik a new nominee who would also pick his own VP.

No way would these guys let Palin waltz into a slot that they fought for all those months.
