I really wish the doubters would just LOOK around a little bit!
Do you SEE the numbers being pulled by Barack Obama at rallies and public events? Jesus! I've never seen anything like it. The man is a HUGE draw. Huge. And those aren't just party loyalists, either. Do you see Republicans pulling those numbers? Even close? I don't think I've seen even another Democrat (at least in my short lifetime) pull these kinds of numbers.

Screw the media and their obviously shaded lenses and just look at what's happening around us. People are talking. People are motivated. Millions upon millions will turn out and cast their ballots.

To quote Sgt. Angel from Hot Fuzz: This shit's getting real.

1. We can't rest assured until January 20, 2009. Supreme court= their Washinton insiders.
I can remember seeing massive crowds in Wisconsin for Kerry. Kerry isn't our president.

4. Call me crazy, but I don't recall hardly anyone being quite so energized over Kerry.

2. You know what nailed it for me?
That the night Palin spoke, Barack's campaign raised ten million dollars.

The night Barack spoke, McCain raised one million. And, this from the party of millionaires.

7. EXACTLY! They aren't just showing up at rallies. They're opening their pocketbooks.
Look at what normal, regular people are DOING right now. Not at what some overpaid stuffed suit is jabbering about on MSNBC because he has to keep his network's ratings up. There is a HUGE disparity between reality and the media right now.

11. Here's another thing.
Here in my county, we ran out of Democratic ballots for the first time in the history of this county during the primary election.

Most of the affected individuals were African Americans at three polling places in particular. I've never seen so many people lined up to vote. Usually, when I go, I'm like #7 or something like that. It was astonishing. My daughter waited in line for over an hour.

Also, about the polling. A lot of African American people here who are in the service industry, ie, food, housekeeping, etc. don't have landlines. Therefore, no way to reach them to poll them.

Just an observation. Might not mean a thing.

13. The cell phone thing is important. Very important.
I have a landline, but it's in place to intercept telemarketers. Almost all of my official business is conducted by my cellphone and that is the case for a growing majority of Americans.

19. same here in Texas and this after 3 weeks of early voting. The early vote
Edited on Fri Sep-05-08 05:24 PM by yellowdogintexas
was 4 x what it normally is..
My voting location (3 Dem and 2 R precincts share this space) considers it a busy day if 100 votes are tallied, total. We use scanners so all ballots go into the scanner and it gives a grand total for bodies passing through.

I went to vote @ 5:45 on Primary Day. Waited 45 minutes to GET IN THE BUILDING! Occasionally a Republican election judge would come out and tell the crowd there was no line inside for the R ticket and maybe 2 or 3 would peel off and go in to vote, the rest of us were having a blast out in the lot and everyone I was in line with was not just there because it was interesting primary..they were excited about November..the prevailing mood was Democrats aren't afraid to admit it any more....

Barack Obama filled Reunion Arena (19,071 capacity for concerts, full stage) in Dallas, came back 3 weeks later and packed our convention center to the rafters in Fort Worth. The official capacity is 11200 but I don't know if that includes floor seating or not.

I have seen some polling showing a 9% spread state wide, w/9% undecided/independent; this compares to 20 and 22 percent spreads in prior cycles.

(edited to add: Cell phones = youth/first time voters, and most minority voters: Latino, Asian, and African American. They are not getting polled, unless they are going on line and answering polls like we do)

as a comparison, Bill Clinton came here during his second term to speak in Sundance Square ..he filled the square, which is a nice enough crowd and the crowd was in fact limited by the available space. There is no way to know how many people watched from office windows though.

16. But they raised around 7 million right after Palin was picked
So the bases are pretty equally motivated.

17. That's the point. The BASE was already voting for McCain.
The moderates, independents... not a chance.

5. Barack is the underdog until he's sitting in the Oval Office.
-- Michelle Obama

I'll be nervous until he is sworn in. After that, I'll be nervous the Secret Service will assign a mole to protecting Obama.

10. It isn't in the slightest.
Look, we might hate Bush with a passion, but we can at least see why he appealed to his voters in 2000. He seemed like such a normal, affable kinda guy. "Compassionate Conservativsim" and all that bs. And people (half of whom were idiots, granted) flocked to him en masse. McCain is not affable. He's not likeable. He's not even pleasant to look at. And he has eight years of the previous administration's failed policies riding his back. Americans might have been dumb enough to vote for Bush in 2004 because we were in the middle of a war and history usually shows that incumbents fare better anyway (nevermind the oddities in Ohio), but they aren't stupid this time. Just look at how the PEOPLE are acting. It tells the whole story.

12. How big? And again, Reagan was an incumbent.

Historically, incumbents are rarely beaten. This is an open election and we're coming off a highly unpopular presidency.

18. Call me crazy but I think the media...
is going to help. My husband has never volunteered for any political campaign, nor has he donated. He had until recently watched the news every day of his life. It is as a direct result of the media's abuse of logic and false reporting that he has signed on to volunteer with our local Democratic Party. I know that if this man has been so provoked that he finds it necessary to take action that there are many more just like him. It's just logical.
