Florida Senate race: Castor 48%, Deutsch 24%
Looks like Deutsch attacks may have backfired. That is a very good thing, as they were vicious. Also, it does not look like the appearance of Howard Dean last week hurt her at all, as some said it might. Of course this is among Democrats, but I don't think it will have the awful effect some on here said. He said he would be visiting southern states, and look at the receptions in TX and FL.

SNIP..."Former state Education Commissioner Betty Castor is the clear favorite in Tuesday's Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, while former U.S. Rep. Bill McCollum and former Housing Secretary Mel Martinez are in a dead-even fight for the Republican nomination, a new poll shows.

Castor holds a 2-to-1 lead over her closest rival, U.S. Rep. Peter Deutsch of Hollywood, the St. Petersburg Times/Miami Herald poll found.

Castor is favored by 48 percent of Democrats, Deutsch by 24 percent and Miami-Dade Mayor Alex Penelas by 9 percent. Eighteen percent are undecided.

While Democrats rally around Castor, the top two Republicans are deadlocked, the poll found....."END SNIP

I heard the St. Pete Times took back its endorsement of Martinez and is going with McCollum because of his support of stem cell research. Now that surprises the heck out of me. I thought he more conservative.....but then who knows.

1. McCollum appears to have gotten a last minute boost by people attacking
Martinez and I predict he will be the nominee now, which is good because he will be easier to beat.

3. I Despise Deutsch...
I live in FL and he keeps sending me campaign brochures that say Betty Castor is soft on terrorism...

Can't he just lose with his dignity intact.....

Also, Martinez has created trouble for himself by saying McCollum is pro gay because he supports hate crime legislation...

This will bite him in the ass if he gets the nomination...

I'm feeling a little better about holding the seat...

9. Good grief, how many cousins are there in Florida politics??
Katherine Harris, Baxter Troutman, J.D. Alexander, and my own rightwing congressman, Adam (Opie) Putnam are cousins, all from central Florida.

12. If this result holds up, I will be impressed
I didn't think Castor would have a chance of reaching 50 % in a three person field. Of course, it doesn't really matter since there is no runoff.
