No Child Left Behind has made public schools more beholding to the federal government than ever before. No Child Left Behind holds local school systems hostages - if you don't get "accreditation" or follow the government's rules, you lose any and all funding.

Sure, it was coauthored by dems. It passed, in bipartisan fashion, in Congress, and the republican president had no problem with it whatsoever. So who, again, signed off on making public schools more bureaucratic and then took FULL credit for it in his 2004 reelection campaign?
