JUST FUCK CBS! Obama and Mcstain now tied?
(CBS) The presidential race between Barack Obama and John McCain is now even at 42 percent, according to a new CBS News poll conducted Monday-Wednesday of this week. Twelve percent are undecided according to the poll, and one percent said they wouldn't vote.

This is in contrast to a poll conducted last weekend, where the Obama-Biden ticket led McCain-Palin by eight points, 48 percent to 40 percent.

McCain has also closed the enthusiasm gap some with Obama, but it still exists. Fifty-five percent of Obama's supporters are enthusiastic about their choice, and now so are 35% of McCain's. Last weekend, just 25 percent of McCain's supporters were enthusiastic about him, compared to 67 of Obama's supporters.

1. It's the normal convention poll bounce. I wouldn't be too concerned about it.

13. damn...way too obvious, no?
I can't believe what I'm seeing today. Between the letter going out to college students in Virginia telling them if they register to vote in the state they could lose their parents insurance coverage, to what is going on at the RNC on the streets, to the 'media' freak it's insane. I think we've finally gone over the edge.

10. I hate "discrediting" polls using this method.
In many polls party ID is not considered to be a static demographic factor that is controlled, it is only found through self identification of the random sample.

Lots of wishy washy types might lean toward being Democrats/Republicans one night and identify as Independents another night, depending on the headlines.

There are never "too many" of a self identified group in a poll, it can be just as fluid as the top number in the poll.

11. They probably figured...
...that Palin "energizing the base" means higher G.O.P. turnout in November. They may well be right.

14. Network polls = useless

Use the daily tracking polls from Gallup and Rasmussen. Their polls are done on three day rolling averages, and they use a sampling size that is several times larger than the network polls use. In other words, they will tend to be more accurate.

15. MSM needs the horse race. How is your area? Are people talking about the
change just to vote for McCain?

Not here.

16. Close race = ratings?

It is clearly to the MSMs benefit if they have a close race. A blowout by either major candidate is a yawnfest. As for the population that has to live with such manipulation, they get left holding the bag, as always.
