Katrina vanden Heuvel brought up the community organizers within the disabilities community
Palin claimed that she will be a "friend" to families with children with disabilities but she either does not realize or ignores the fact that thousands of parents before her fought for rights for their children with disabilities.
For example, if Palin's son had been born a little more than 30 years ago, he would not be entitled to a public education. Her family would have been faced with the choice of institutionalizing him or trying to educate him on their own. A "friend" of the community of disabled people and their families does not make a mockery out of their community organization efforts to advance the lives and opportunities of people with disabilities.
3. I went back and looked at the speech and she said friend and advocate.
And you're right about her ability to set the agenda or move forth any legislation. I get the feeling that McCain would not give her anything even approaching the power that Cheney has.
I wondered how she could demean people who are facing such difficult odds with their children, without the benefits that a fat government paycheck like hers can mean to her own disabled kid. UGLY, UGLY, UGLY!
