1. they'll probably complain that his win
wasn't big enough to drag along a filibuster-proof senate majority, and point out their chosen candidate would've given us 96 senate seats and 380 house seats.

2. This Chicken Little Poster
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 11:22 AM by RobinA
will go to sleep very happy and with a sigh of relief on election night if Kerry wins.

If Bush wins she will try to avoid DU the following day, because it will be filled with the sound of hand-wringing and rending of garments by those who refused to see the obvious.

4. Thank you....I agree 100%...
I'm very much pro-Kerry but part of me does worry. But I will be very happy to have my worry prove fruitless.

And I will not want to hear the blaming/finger pointing circular firing squad if he does lose.

5. You expressed my thoughts exactly.
If Kerry wins, I will get my first good night of sleep since the 2000 election.

I will be so happy and relieved that I won't care what anyone says.

9. Right with you on that one.
DU was an ugly sandbox to play in for awhile after the 2002 elections.

13. Right-on
I don't see myself as a "chicken-little" for questioning Kerry's tactics especially the waiting until the damage was done before responding on the Swift boaters. But like you, I will be one of the happiest people alive if Kerry sends Bush's sorry ass back to Crawford.

ON the otherhand this post makes me wonder what the "don't worry...be happy" crowd will do if Kerry loses? probably be another four years of blaming Nader.

18. I, too, will breathe a sigh of relief
Just because I'm a pessimist doesn't mean I don't want Kerry to win:
I've never donated money to a candidate or cause before 2004 - now, I've donated to Kerry, the DNC, MoveOn & Truthout just this year alone. Before this year, I'd never written a Letter to the Editor about politics, either. I've had 2 published now in the past 10 days.

But, I also know what we're up against - ruthless, treasonous criminals who will stop at nothing to maintain their grasp on power and a compliant corporate media, as well as electronic voting machines and the potential for October surprises.

22. thank you, great post. put me in the chicken little corner too.
kerry/edwards had better be on top of their game. the public is not as educated as folks around here. take for instance my wife, she could care less about this board, or the things that are discussed here. so I figure if my wife is like that, man I can't imagine what other folks are like.

6. It must be nice to know the future
I see no point in answering hypothetical questions like this.
Besides that, the question should be IF Kerry is inaugurated.

11. Probably be very quiet
or post things like, "I knew this would happen all along." But a few of them would be very upset, since there are a handful who are not really Dems. There has been a few new members lately always posting "I'm worried" types of posts that has my nose smelling something unpleasant. Not a full fledged invasion (yet) but I expect to see more and more of these folks the closer the election gets. I don't blame them really, I would be scared too of losing if I was a Bush supporter.

15. Don't count on the Repugs being quiet for a second
Immediately, if not sooner, they will start up the smear machine on Kerry's administration. To lose the election would be a set back but they will re-form again, plan for the next election cycle, raise money, and get wealthy wackos to fund spurious foundations for "truth and justice for Americans" and set out to tell the masses how stupid they were for voting for a liar/thief/coward (you pick the adjective). They they will not even stop for a minute to a draw a deep breath before they gear up to "Neoconanize" Kerry like they did Clinton. We'll hear about lame business deals, more Swift Boat vets, first wife stories, Teresa's outsourcing - anything they can come up with to smear. Smearing and fear is the modus operandi for these guys. Expect it and get use to it.

And just for the record, I don't think it will work any better than it did during Clinton's administration. The one major failing of the repugs is the constant, consistent belief that most Americans are stupid.

12. If Kerry wins, this Chicken Little Poster
will be the happiest he's been since the evil SCOTUS decision came down. He will dance in the streets. He will eat as much crow as his stomach will allow. He will shout from the rooftops that he was wrong, wrong, wrong about the obliviousness, shelfishness, and meanness of the american people. He will sleep like a baby and pinch himslef when he awakes to make sure it wasn't all a dream,

You can quote me on the above. I so long to be wrong about this election but my gut tells me * will win and we'll have hell to pay.

14. I notice a lot of responses mentioning Kerry's election.
However the original poster said "innaguration". And while I don't agree with the original poster very often, I will say that in this case, innauguration is a better choice of words. For even if there are no "games"on November 2, and the election is an undisputed Kerry win, that still gives the BCE, er uhhhh... "Al Qaeda" until January 20 to arrange an emergency that might "postpone" a transfer of power.

And even in the event that nothing happens there, January 20th is not the end, but the beginning. Kerry is more or less a band aid to cover a very deep wound to this party and this country, and that work continues on January 21. :)

16. Technically, this should be a locked thread...
This "calling out" of other DU'ers is locking material. Frankly, it's an inflammatory thread with a mocking tone.

Nonetheless, you stuck by Kerry through thick and thin so I think you are entitled to a little "I told you so".

17. I think most of the so called "chicken little" posters
Edited on Mon Aug-30-04 12:10 PM by crunchyfrog
desperately want Kerry to win, and simply are willing to express worries and concerns, or constructive criticism, when they feel the Kerry campaign isn't acting as effectively as it might.

I don't think many of them are waiting around to smugly say "I told you so" if things go bad. I think most of them will be overjoyed if their fears prove groundless and Kerry wins.

I feel that this place is becoming very intolerant of dissent, and is doing a disservice to needed unity by dismissing anyone who expresses a genuine concern as a "chicken little", almost as a knee-jerk response.

Should the unthinkable happen and Kerry not win the election(or have it stolen) I wonder what the Pollyannas will have to say about it.

By the way, I don't fall into either camp, I just would like to see a little more tolerance for people of good will who have honest concerns.

Now please feel free to flame away.

People who agree with Bill Clinton that Kerry needed to hit back at the Swift Boat vets right away are now chicken littles. :)

20. Cluck, Cluck
This Chicken Little poster will be relieved and glad that he was wrong.

I can't speak for all who vent their frustrations on DU, but the "Victory is inevitable" crew don't get the point of DU.

Except for those who are really intentional disruptors and disguised freepers, those who complain or express frustration on DU want Kerry to win as much as anyone here.

Among other things, this is a support system for progressives. As such, when we feel frustrated or angry or scared by what is happening, we ought to be able to say that here.

Sometimes it's just venting. But often we want to be convinced that our concerns are not justified.

Those who have honest positive advice and information are helpful in keeping people's "eyes on the prize."

But those who just say "Quit whining. Kerry has it in the bag" or accuse people of having ulterior motives are not. And it's neither helpful or honest to pretend that there is some "secret plan" to guaranbtee victory, and say that if we weren't such idiots we'd see it.
