This guy on C-SPAN said Palin winged the whole speech because of broken teleprompter

HOLD ON!!!! Is there any evidence of this? I swore my 12yo son saw the prompter and started reading part of it with her. Where did this guy get this information from-- I fear they're making stuff up.

On Edit: The guy I'm talking about is Patrick Ottenhoff, some guy from New Media Strategies. He said that Redstate.com is pointing out that the teleprompter was broken last night and that it sped through the applause lines and so she winged the whole thing-- his words.

Halfway through Sarah Palin's speech tonight at the RNC, people following the speech noticed she was deviating from the prepared text.

According to sources close to the McCain campaign, the teleprompter continued scrolling during applause breaks. As a result, half way through the speech, the speech had scrolled significantly from where Governor Palin was in the speech. The malfunction also occurred during Rudy Giuliani's speech, explaining his significant deviations from his speech.

Unfazed, Governor Palin continued, from memory, to deliver her speech without the teleprompter cued to the appropriate point in her speech.

8. I was able to read the speech on the teleprompter on several occasions.

Whenever the camera shot was from behind Palin, showing the audience, you could see the large white lettering on the teleprompter. So, there were certainly periods of time when it was working properly, because I could see she was saying the same things I was reading.

she deviated. anyone else here use teleprompters for work, because I have many times and sorry -- they'd have scrolled back quickly. it may have blipped once, I say MAY, because after all, we're talking about a republican...but it wasn't broken. They have back up systems for this stuff and there is no way they'd leave tracy palin out there with nothing but her gaffe-prone loud mouth assertions ab out how fantastic she is. and anyway, her speech seemed pretty much like the one that was leaked out prior to the start of it.

what REALLY happened:

sarah palin has never had to use a telepmompter before. Her town is so small, she just got up there and shouted and plus, since she said the press was her enemy, she just shut them out.

so what really happened was she couldn't read and talk at the same time very easily. Now, if she had had ANY experience on the national stage, this would not have been an issue. any candidate of this century has used one. except those from population 5000 wasilla.

she probably talked a lot slower than they had rehearsed and the thing got ahead of her for one brief second. of course, they will whine about this and try to make her look like a hero for overcoming this moment! Oh, what an american story!

I don't know why, it's just one of my quirks.

And you could clearly see her looking at and reading off the teleprompter throughout the entire speech. All a person has to do to debunk this is watch video of her speech at different spots throughout and notice her eyes tracking the words on the teleprompter. When people read, of course, their eyes track left to right momentarily. It's hard to miss that particular thing.
