One Very Off Moment

03 Sep 2008 11:20 pm

The one moment that stays with me tonight, oddly enough, was not Palin's speech. It was a line from Giuliani, a New York mayor with a young second third wife and gay friends, mocking a "cosmopolitan" who was brought up by a single mother. It was that Barack Obama's rise could "only happen in America." And it was designed to mock him, the first African-American candidate for the presidency of the United States.

I won't forget that.

2. I'll never forget such a quote on 60 minutes by the author of the "Turner Diaries."
I didn't hear Giuliani's speech but I can recall that 60 minutes episode in which the author spit out the world "cosmopolitan" as something he truly hated. Timothy McVeigh had a copy of the "Turner Diaries" with him when he was arrested. Fine company Guiliani is keeping.

6. I don't remember anyone at the Democratic convention making fun of another
person from the Republican party. They may have disagreed but gouliani is making jokes about Obama and all the people are laughing and it's not just one joke either. It's a whole comedian's sketch.

I find that repulsive.

And I won't forget that Guiliani was a shitty mayor that just happened to luck out when the worst catastrophe to ever hit New York City happened on his watch. No matter the occasion, Guiliani trots out 9/11 as his personal badge of honor. Let's be clear, his claim to fame was that he appeared more presidential than the Texas village idiot who showed the world what kind of a duty-shirking coward he truly was. If the truth were told, and it's generally not when the subject is 9/11, Guiliani's inept city management actually increased the day's casualty rate. It was Giuliani's inept management that provided differing communication systems for police and firefighters, resulting in mass confusion. It was Giuliani's extremely poor choice of locating the city's main crisis control center in the city's number one terrorist target in direct conflict of professional advice to the contrary. People wondered why good ol' Rudy was out in the streets with the dusty, dirty masses on 9/11. It's simple: he didn't have anywhere else to go.

Fuck you Rudy Giuliani. Fuck you.
