My god. Is this the most boring, lackluster, stodgy, stuffy convention in history, or what?

I hadn't watched any of it until now, but damn. The energy level of that place is resting securely somewhere between coma and corpse. And honestly, how many blustering red-faced buffoons in suits and cowboy hats with cell phones planted in their ears can there BE? I've counted dozens. They're like a modern stereotype of Boss Hog; just give 'em a cigar, and they're set.

The Republican National Convention; about as energetic and interesting as watching grass grow in the dark.

8. Duke Ellington would be too hip for the room

You didn't seriously mean Duke might be appreciated there? Or were you trying to point out how unclassy they were?

5. Yes.
Sweet Jesus, how lame is this thing? The speaker now is a little bit better than the others, but the bar was set way low.

7. And the most obvious visual: white faces
I first took a look yesterday and it is SO ODD to have a party so homogenous.

9. Yes, a sea of white
from pics I've seen. Not really watching the TV coverage. Does any of the TV media ever mention this? You think they'd notice.

12. Larry King had some Democrats
and, ugh, Jesse Ventura on last night commenting on the RNC. The whiteness of the crowd was noted by two African-Americans. The sense of the comments were that they felt like outsiders. How could one feel that the party is inclusive and accepting when the people representing it are so unrepresentative of the diversity in America.

13. NPR reporter just stated the number of African American delegates...
at the RNC is at a 40-year low. Also, male delegates outnumber female delegates 2 to 1. A party of the last century (if that), not the 21st century when diversity in our country is increasing and gaining visibility.
