There's ordinarily some convention bounce or another, even if it's modest.

There's ordinarily an uptic in fundraising during and immediately following conventions.

There's ordinarily heightened attention to the candidates and their families during the same period.

McCain's no champion to the fundies, but who else are they going to vote for?

otherwise many would have stayed home. But it's probably alienated a whole bunch of moderates - net effect is probably a wash, but it does open up the middle for Obama to capture more votes.
