It's the one thought I keep coming back to.

If they are confident they can Steal this election

then the qualifications of their VP pick are irrelevant.

2. If they were confident they could steal it, they'd run Gingrich or Delay.

They wouldn't waste time on lightweight symbolism, they'd just turn power over to their own backroom dudes, whoever that is these days.

The good thing about being the power behind the throne is you don't have to run for office, you don't get the blame when it all goes south, and you can stay behind the scenes for the next king you make. So maybe no one wants to be made visible in this election.

I don't know if it's Rove. This is simplistic for Rove, unless their is more to come. This is more like what Gingrich used to talk about in the 90s--splitting the Democratic Party by running someone like Nader, or nominating an African American or female Republican candidate to lure voters to his party. Gingrich was convinced that all Americans are just sheep who vote on issues of identity, and that a female Republican would overcome all the objections to specific Republican policies, like abortion. Gingrich never understood the intellectual nature of Democratic ideals, so he just assumed we voted our guts and genitals the way Republicans do.

MCcain has been around DC politics for a quarter Century It makes me think

he has been assured of the Presidency so it's ok to go with a complete neophyte for VP

His polls may show that he doesn't have a chance, so he's picking the candidate that they show might shake things up.

Remember, if all this about stealing the elections is true, they still have to do it state by state, which means they are really only able to do it in states that they have some control over but that are likely to go Democrat. Florida and Tennessee in 2000, Ohio in 04, for instance. If it's a real landslide, then stealing Florida or Ohio might not help.

It's also possible that McCain just out-thought himself. It's been a long time since he's been in touch with the average voter. This may have been him playing a hunch, then finding out his hunch was bad.

And I wouldn't write the requiem mass yet. George HW Bush was this much of a joke, too, and was trailing Dukakis by a lot more. Dukakis picked a venerable statesman as his running mate, and HW picked Dan Quayle. You'll notice who the history books say won that one. Just sayin', I ain't puttin' down my hammer until the last nail is driven.

8. This year really reminds me of 1996.

The Reps knew Clinton was going to win in a landslide so they 'gave' the nomination to Dole knowing he would lose but that it wouldn't hurt any candidates for 2000.

McBush was 'given' the nomination and he 'chose' an unknown VP to at least inject some semblance of life into his campaign.

when I found out McLame was the nominee, was that they are going to
steal more than they ever have because the GOPers don't have much
faith in McLame being able to win. So they have to steal A LOT to make
up for it.

Our only hope is if Obama wins by a landslide, because if it's even
remotely close they'll steal enough to win it.
