. . .I know its not of our business, but they could have just acknowledged the pregnancy and moved on. Instead they announced that they were getting married, so the question should be asked as to why they aren't married already, when do they plan on getting married and when was the decision to get married made.

Again some could say this is none of our business, but they mentioned marriage in the statement they made and now they are having the couple participate in photo ops with McCain.

1. I found out I was pregnant with my first before I was married...
the hubby and I postponed because I didn't want "to look like a satin clad sofa" in my wedding photos, shallow, but true;)

True but McCain can't take advantage of that by LEVERAGING the kids in photo ops. . .
. . .simply put.

THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN!

7. Obama has had his kids in photo ops as well. They were on stage at the convention
and at times during the primaries. That doesn't make them legitimate targets.

16. I think if there was some controversy attached to the Obama children. . .
. . .he might take a different tact, I also believe that acting like Palin's daughter and the Obama children are the same is very naive.

Let's see what happens if Obama's daughter at the age of 17 find themselves in a similar situation.

21. Well, we disagree. As far as I know, every candidate has their minor children, often
their adult children as well, join them on stage at conventions and other photo ops.

I would hope that, if one of Obama's daughters was a pregnant teenager, he would have the courage to have her join him on stage, but perhaps you are right and he would try to hide her.

5. He can take the high road. Others, unaffiliated with the campaign
can ask any damn question they want.

Why do questions about an obvious shotgun wedding bother you?

We don't want anyone to pick on Obama's kids or wife. It's a two way street.

4. I thought it was because the legal age to marry in Alaska is 18,
but it turns out that you can get married at a younger age if both sets of parents are present and give their consent.

8. and did they both really drop out of school?
I'm reading that the baby's father has dropped out of high school too. WTF???

They are not "supporting" these kids, or "celebrating their choice" - they are freakin' punishing them, and on a national stage!

18. I read somewhere that Bristol is doing the home-school thing.
It would be smart for the parents to support them while they finish high school, at least. Maybe they can live with his parents or some of the grandparents.

Two pregnant girls in my high school finished, and so did their husbands under this arrangement. At least one of the girls finished college eventually, and divorced the baby daddy, but is doing well. Apparently no major problems with the kids.

It wasn't a great start, but it wasn't a total disaster, either.

If the Palins and the Johnstons can't do what's necessary to give the best start to the teens and the baby as possible under the circumstances, they should be incredibly ashamed of themselves.

9. Insurance to pay for prenatal examinations and delivery charges.
Bristol is on parents' insurance policy now. You think Levi has comparable insurance to pay for all that?

They'll marry once the obstetric bills are given to the carrier.

17. As I said in another thread
It has been my experience that when parents of a pregnant teen say the teen plans on getting married, it is either about wanting to look proper, or because they are just in a load of denial and find comfort in that statement.

I wish Bristol and whatever the boy's name is all the best. This is a hard situation to be in now, and they have to make hard choices and find support where they can. Unfortunately mom does not seem to be a place for support right now.

regardless of who wins.
