I hope Sarah Palin does GREAT tonight.
In fact, I think her speech will be hailed as great, especially given the roars of the right-wingnut crowd at the RNC watching her. It will probably have good enough delivery that will beat all expectations (read: extremely low expectations) being proffered by the McCain campaign.

But here's the reality -- IT'S ALL DOWNHILL FROM THERE for Mrs. Palin.

Either this candidate is going to be *very* tightly managed, or she's going to make one gaffe/goof after another. Either way, she will make a terrible impression regarding her ability to assume the Presidency, and will be yet another lead weight on the McCain campaign.

But when carefully and tightly controlled for a convention speech, she'll be just fine.

1. I predict she will do well -- after all expectactions have been set low.
You are right though -- it will be all downhill after that.

2. If she does really well...
...she will only make McCindy look worse when he delivers his POWfest in his precdictable boring delivery.

Nice work Johnny. Your VP pick is sucking all the air out of the room.

4. Except for that voice.
She looks great, but I haven't adjusted to the audio output yet.

8. Her voice reminds me of Lisa Loopner
And it doesn't help that her husband's name is "Todd".

5. She Better, She Has Had The Entire Week To Read A Speech Written For Her
No interviews. No meetings with delegations. No campaign tour stops. Instead, she is just holed up in a hotel cramming for the speech.

I mean talk about paternalistic. Joe Biden is named VP, and he is suddenly doing interviews, making campaign appearances, meeting with delegations, AND giving his VP speech.

However, in an incredibly paternalistic approach, the GOP is not only making Palin off-limits, but they are writing her speech for her, and giving her several days to do nothing but practice reading the teleprompter.

For all the cries of sexism by the GOP, I would think the handholding is offensive. Heck, if she is supposed to be a heartbeat from the presidency, then she better start acting like a President.

13. The McCain campaign was blindsided by
all the crap that fell out of the Palin piñata. She's been incommunicado because they're afraid that if she speaks extemporaneously she'll add fuel to the fire or be asked off-script questions about the mess. She's tabloid roadkill on a shingle.

7. If she doesn't drool and pick her nose - it will be hailed as "stunning"

...and that's a problem.

She's got beauty pageant experience and will give a poised, flawless, and imperceptibly vacuous, performance.

14. To "the base" she could just quack for 40 minutes
and the reviews would be raves. Face it. The reviews have already been written. When you have all of the surrogates fawning over her from Laura Bush to Carly Fiorina, who don't even know the woman, the die has been cast. Laura Bush actually said "once you get to know her". Really, Laura? And how well do you know her? Did you see into her soul during that five minutes in the ladies restroom?
They're all going to be good little soldiers and bravely smile and say she did great. We'll hear endlessly how she's "energized the base." (Ours or theirs? Because it seems like our base is even MORE energized. And who would have thought that possible after our blazing triumph of a convention last week?).
