This is THE perfect opportunity for Kerry to step up and say he regrets giving Bush the power to go to war. To say to people who marched today - OK, I hear you and I agree!

1. Can't do it.

He would be labeled a waffler extrordinaire whose opinions and principles are dictated by the political winds of any particular day. Repukes would say he is changing his mind just to get elected. Also, I really think he does believe that the President, any President, should be given this authority in crisis situations. Only no one bothers to report the second part of this belief, that the President must use war as a last resort, not in a preemptive, imperialistic, arrogant way as bush* has done.

2. He needs to call a press conference and read exactly what he

said to congress before the vote, and while he is at, it exactly what he said to Congress in 1971 and then tie them together. He would have 70% of the people with him on both issues. He can promise to answer all the questions they want to ask him. I think this would blow Bush out of the water. Of course this should wait until after the convention.
