Has anyone mentioned that the Obama camp has played this precisely right?
Come on, now. You know that the Obama camp did their own digging on every single potantial VP candidate, down to the dregs (and that's really where thoroughness came in handy!). They knew everything that's been circulating on Palin probably months ago. They have a file cabinet full of this stuff. So, what does Obama do on Friday?

He congratulates Palin, graciously, and continues on with his campaign.

A few surrogates get out their to express incredulity about the "experience" argument, possibly to bait the Mccain campaign into their increasingly wacky statements about Palin's national security creds.

But they know about trooper-gate, probably down to the fine grain.
They know about AIP, in all it's weirdo details.
They know about the various pregnancy rumors.
They know about the bridge to nowhere reversals.
They know everything.

But do they say anything about any of it? No. They welcome her to the race, and stay with the planned events, including a very successful 60 Minutes interview, during which they say little about Palin again. Meanwhile, a shitstorm is brewing all over the Internet about the very things they know. They don't have to be involved in any of it, and almost certainly weren't. They know how the Internet works. They know dirty will out on the Internet. So they wait. They campaign. They ignore it completely until somebody accuses them of being involved, at which point Obama says "No fucking sir. Not us. And cut the shit."

But dirty will out.

They know it.

It has been, again, a perfect political play.

1. First rule- if your opponent is beating himself
best to stay out of the way.

Obama and team did pretty good on this.

3. My thought is simply this ...

"Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake."

McCain and company need no interruptions right now. They're concentrating on being complete fuckups.

And, yes, Obama has played this perfectly.

I wish his supporters would be more like him right now.

I guess if this hurts Obama in the election, you all will have no one to blame but yourselves.

10. Yes, I don't support what has been going on with this board....
and it was clear to me, that Obama tried to distance himself from the "liberal bloggers" in his address today, which I might add, this entire board IGNORED, and pretended that he was not talking about DU.

Amazing. Just amazing. This makes Obama have to defend himself, when he clearly has NO involvement.

Don't you people get it?

I guess not.

27. Welcome to the way it works
I think you're the one who's not getting it.

he clearly has no involvement. Clearly so. When asked, he will point this out, deny all involvement, and it will be true. Those who ask it of him will look like putzes and sit down shamefaced. The Obama campaign does not need to be involved, at all, and so thye will not be involved.

Folks here are independent of the Obama campaign, and have free reign to rumor-monger, dig up info, and machinegun it into the eyes and ears of the general public. is it nice? No. Is it pretty? nope. Does it in any way resemble the magical winged rainbow-farting unicorns that some people think should be the mascot of the Democratic Party? Absolutely not.

But it is part and parcel of getting the refucklicans out of the running. They have the media on their side until the negative info becomes overwhelming. Thus? The info needs to be overwhelming. i would rather have you call me an asshole than see four years of another Republican screwing this country and any others that happen to land in his sight.

29. Do you think this is all about Obama?
Because I don't, and neither does Obama. He's said so many times.

This is about people taking back their government, one state and one vote at a time. And, I might add, taking back the media-one story at a time.

If Obama ever got behind this, and supported it the way I and many DUers do, I would think it quite amatuerish of him. I would be disappointed.

displayed on this board over the last 2 days. Hideous behavior.

I want him to WIN, not have to constantly defend himself. Even if he's not directly involved.

I am not the "type" of supporter as some of the people on this board are. I respect HIS wishes that this STOP. That's how I will support him. I TRUST the Obama camp, and know without all of this childish behavior on this board, that they will handle anything that comes up.

He has not made a mistake yet, and I doubt he will. But this stupid highschool shit needs to stop.

18. I have been paying attention. No one else has.
I think maybe this needs to be posted in all threads;

Obama today;

BO: I have heard some of the news on this and so let me be as clear as possible. I have said before and I will repeat again, I think people’s families are off limits, and people’s children are especially off limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics, it has no relevance to governor Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president. And so I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories. You know my mother had me when she was 18. >>>>>And how family deals with issues and teenage children that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody<<<< who is supporting me understands that is off limits.

Jeff Zeleny: an unnamed McCain advisor as reported on Reuters that the despicable rumors have been spread on blogs some even with Barack Obama’s name on them.

BO: I am offended by that statement, there is no evidence at all that any of this involved us. I hope I am as clear as I can be. So in case I am not, let me repeat, we don’t go after people’s families, we don’t get them involved in the politics, it is not appropriate and it is not relevant. Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be. And if I ever thought it was somebody in the campaign that was involved in something like that they would be fired. Ok. Alright guys. Thank you.

*************************************************************************************

He specifically said ANYBODY. That means ALL of his supporters. I understood it. Couldn't be any clearer.

25. So, hypocrisy in a candidate is alright?
We should only focus on issues? Character is not an important issue?

This is a "Family Values" candidate, who advocates abstinence only sex education; and absolutely no birth control. I think a pregnant high-school daughter is relevant here.

A DUI for an overly controlling spouse of a candidate is a legitamite concern. (And why didn't anybody ping harder on whatsisname's over influence in state government?)

A willingness to more or less abandon and neglect a four month old special needs child in order to advance a career shows a great deal about the character of this candidate.

Aren't these relevant points that illustrate the true character of the person the Republicans want to put within a heart-beat away from the leadership of the free world?

Also bear in mind that the children issues are regarded as pluses by the RWers. That has to be countered.

6. yes, once again...
his campaign knows exaclty how it should be done! I loved his response when journalists tried to tie this to him...

but why did that even happen? did journalists ask McCain why his supporters outed John Edwards? why would it reflect on Obama when THEY do something that warrants negative press?

I'm so happy our candidate is staying above the fray.

9. maybe they didn't know, but still played it right.
I heard that the Alaskans said that nobody had requested records on her. But whether or not, seems like the Obama camp has great political instincts and knows not to touch this. Let the righties dig themselves and Palin into a hole. Something as juicy as this will not be ignored by the media--especially a 24 hour news channel that suddenly has no convention news one lonely Monday night.

You know what CBS did? They sent a guy up to Alaska to snoop around and ask questions and give reports while Katie anchors in the hurricane zone. It's going viral all by itself.

Obama gave a rally in Milwaukee today. He decided not to give his standard 45 minute campaign speech and just talked for 15 minutes out of deference to the hurricane victims. Seemed to be well-received by the audience.

16. There is no reason for Team O to get in front of a perfect Republican train wreck.
And I'm sure Team O knew most of the information now being reporting by the MSM. We have had quite a few liberal reporters digging around in Alaska due to the Ted Stevens corruption and Palin's troopergate scandal. It seems as though Palin does have quite a few enemies in AK and she ran Ted Stevens' 527 at one point.

The Republicans didn't do their homework. Yet again.
