7. I think he should treat her just like any other candidate
for vice president. If people cry, "No fair picking on the lady!" in a poutrage, then the only responsible answer is,

"Politics ain't beanbag--this is for the vice-presidency. How's she going to face other world leaders if she can't hang on in a tough debate?" It would throw the issue back to her competency, and McCain's judgement for picking her.

8. No, I think they just want to get their facts straight first.....
They are portraying her for what she is, some unknown mother of 5 from Alaska that no one knows about. On Thursday night McCain will give some sort of speech to end the Republican Nomination. The next morning they will do something huge to put the spotlight on Palin.

33. "Lately"? I've been pissed off since I first laid eyes...
on that coddled, swaggering frat boy! Before I even knew much of his record in Texas, my gut told me there was something horribly wrong with him. And my gut was right.

The corruption and greed are staggering. Which makes me wonder about election fraud and whether all of this is for naught. Trying to remain optimistic...

And good for you for volunteering -- GOTV is crucial.

14. Let me ask you all something here. OK, women want to break the glass ceiling and
Hillary has. She never asked for anyone or expected anyone to take it easy on her. Only respect her as any other candidate. Also, we are talking about the VP of the US for god's sake. Do we want to soft shoe this so called VP candidate all the way to the WH. Does she expect the foreign leaders to treat her with kid gloves. Biden will show her respect but this taking it easy on her the media is talking about I don't know. What is he supposed to do when he debates her? Bullshit.

Never thought I'd live to see it.

If the GOP is too fragile to go toe-to-toe with a fellow American, how will they hold up against America's enemies?

You heard it from the media first: The GOP is wimpy. Go easy on 'em!

Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 06:36 PM by davepc
"Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong Il, and Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wont go easy of Sarah Palin if shes president, so I wont go easy on her during the debates. America needs to know that the vice president can stand up to tough foreign leaders. Make no mistake, the leaders of other nations wont go easy on Sarah Palin if she president because they're afraid of offending middle class working women. If she cant take a tough debate, she has no business being a candidate for Vice President."

Then...crush her.

22. I certainly hope so...

McCain thinks Palin is ready to be president. It would be sexist for Joe to treat her any differently than he would a man opponent in the same position. If she is too fragile to debate Joe, then she was recruited by McCain for the wrong position.

Any mediator will say the same! It's effective and you better believe it's already in Joe's toolbox. Like how at the convention he said that the ob requires more than a good soldier...he was respectful, almost even affectionate it seemed. But he truly nailed it.

He will not handle her with kid gloves because the vice presidency is far too important. The bottom line is that world leaders would not treat Palin with kid gloves either. I am very confident that the Obama is very aware of this situation and will handle it well. So Governor Palin...welcome to the big leagues.

40. Did Joe pull his punches with Hillary? He will go with the facts, just
like he always does. He knows how to do this. He'll come off as respectful, but strong. The Dems know how to debate with women in the mix. The real question is, how will they prep Palin for this? She doesn't have the knowledge base to be as up to speed on the issues. She will be spoon-fed talking points and will be given scripted shots to take. She hasn't ever played in the big leagues and I think that, even with the bar set so low, she'll have a really difficult time. Especially if it's McSame that is writing her script.

41. I'm not about to tell the campaign what to do, but I do think...
... that just letting her self-immolate at the VP debate is a wise choice. I don't think that Biden needs to do any more than demonstrate that he has a wide, detailed grasp of foreign policy issues, while Palin struggles to stay afloat in the shallow end of the pool.

43. This is BS
If she wants to play with the big boys.

The very suggestion shows (1) she is not ready and / or (2) that woman are weaker - in which case, why should she be President?

The RW thinks women inherently too weak to be President. Joe can and has to go against her with everything he has. The idea is ridiculous. If she is fit to be President, she can debate Joe full on. If he can't debate her full on, she isn't fit to be President, female or male.

Biden needs to take her to task. He can do it without being condescending or mean-spirited. It was clear that Dan Quayle got taken to the woodshed from Lloyd Bentson even though Dukakis didn't win.
