Palin 'could face impeachment'... from WSJ
Now, one of the bright new stars in the Republican Party has suddenly become tarnished. The state legislature this week voted to hire an independent investigator to see whether Ms. Palin abused her office by trying to get her former brother-in-law fired from his job as an Alaska state trooper.

"This is a governor who was almost impervious to error," says Hollis French, a Democratic state senator. "Now she could face impeachment, in a worst-case scenario."

2. She fired the chief safety officer
because he wouldn't fire the brother-in-law. If I understand correctly.

5. This is why you vet people.
Jeez! Who in their right mind would pick someone under active investigation for ANYTHING, by their own legislature? Whether it was justified or not!

McCain is obviously out of his mind.

9. They didn't even have to vet her past reading a newspaper.
The story has been public knowledge and in the news for months.

Perhaps they don't know HOW to read.

6. Maybe no conscience or qualms with abusing office is part of the vetting
process, I mean, think about it, look whose shoes she hopes to fill.

used a taser on his son.

I'm not saying it's right that she abused her power... but this'll polish her maverick, do-good-even-if-you-have-to-break-rules image, and that'll only help her.

11. I wonder who is in charge of McCain's campaign, with this the pick. He
must be doing it alone or someone would have had lead time to go and check her out. If she was on the list a while, this shows how slipshod they were not to do this in advance back in the day when there was time. Tough stuff now.

18. Still a stupid thing to do though
but according to the reports, the father figured the kid would just have someone else do it so he wanted to at least do it safely...
