BREAKING: McCain/Palin Family Going to Gulf Coast Sunday
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 08:49 PM by mikiturner
Overcompensate much?

Likely GOP presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, are traveling to Mississippi to check on people getting prepared for Hurricane Gustav.

McKain aides say McCain and his wife Cindy will join Palin in traveling to Jackson, Miss., Sunday at the invitation of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. They said the McCains and Palins want to check on preparations because they are concerned about the people threatened by the storm, which is heading through the Gulf of Mexico and threatening the same area ravaged by Hurricane Katrina three years ago. The storm could hit the coast as early as Monday afternoon.

Hmmmm....

Fucking assholes, people are going to die and they are swanning for the cameras.

6. I hate to say it but there is no reason for Obama or Biden to be there
It is distracting and it certainly does not help.

8. I think most people will see it for what it is,
a political stunt, and a photo op.

11. You don't swan for the cameras prior to an event where people die. This is a killer storm
The storm is centered just north of cuba now, but we've had thunder storms all day in WPB from it's outer reaches.

33. You wish they thought of exploiting a tragedy in the making for photo ops?
Personally, I'm glad they have better sense in their heads.

Better for Obama/Biden to go there to help with the aftermath.

I stand corrected :)

That way they can actually see what the destruction looks like first hand and what those poor folks have to go through.

22. No their campaign stop will just tie up traffic and get everyone who is trying to evacuate stuck
There were horrible traffic jams before Katrina and there were no Presidential campaigns visiting then. They need to help get people evacuated from the Gulf Coast, they should not be diverting police resources for a campaign stunt. And yes I would be saying the same thing if Obama was going down there, we don't need candidates interfering with storm preparations.

16. That's the way to frame it. McCain/Ovaries attend hurricane party while coast drowns.
That asshole did the same thing with the flood up north this spring. This amounts to interference with the duties of the local government preparing for a disaster.

12. And I suppose they will have the Secret Service block off roads for them
A visit by a Presidential candidate requires a lot of security measures and police resources. We can't have the New Orleans police have to worry about providing security for a Presidential candidate when they are in the midst of an emergency situation. I hope that both candidates keep their distance until there comes a point when they start to get things under control and police resources can be spared again.

13. What are they thinking?
This is clearly a political move and if people are really trying to get out aren't they going to get in the way of that. Going into the path of a hurricane is idiotic and reckless.

18. Well, they are both Mavericks, so, reckless is their game.
It's idiotic and dangerous and a ploy and I really do hope if they go, they get stuck. I was in NOLA after Katrina (although they are going to Mississippi) and I don't think Cindy could take it, John would have a PTSD attack and Palin would swipe a gun from the Nat'l Guard and start shooting people walking to get out of town.

Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 09:01 PM by CatsDogsBabies
Stupid idea. I am sure people can prepare and and flee without a whole presidential campaign ensemble to fuss over. OMG. These people (McCain and Co.) are stupid.

15. our guy will be part of ther solution
not taking resources away from them when they most need it for a photo op

be prepared for the smothering "warmth" of patriarchal barbie as she spreads her concern around like a bad flu. mccain wanted to counter the he's not one of the people meme, so he picked her.

only problem is she is really just one of the people.

not a leader, not experienced, etc. I guess he can't tell the difference, since he knows no "one of the people" types.

Helping people?

Stay the fuck out of the way! These people down there will want NOTHING from the McCains (or anyone) BEFORE the storm. They need to leave. While the storm will be hitting McCain will be high-fiving and smirking with that stupid "heh-heh-heh" laugh.

23. Fucking hypocrites. They should send REAL help instead. Christ! A Photo-Op???
Remember when Bush decided to finally visit NO, and all the ruckus it caused? The planes dropping supplies had to stop while he was there. It hurt the rescue effort. This pissed me off. These bastards are going to make things worse. If they were sincere, they would just say they were ensuring the Bush administration was sending adequate help and supplies. Shameless whores!

24. That didn't take long. Photo ops in raincoats and blowing hair.
They will not do any good at all there. What could these two do to see that preparations are being made? They'll fly in and airports shut down around them. They'll be getting government attention that should go to preparations. But at least we'll see that Palin is tough commander-in-chief material.

They make me sick.

Used up resources that were needed for flood relief. Obama waited until he was told it was OK before he came.
