IMNSHO: What will make women Dems & Independents vote McCain is our sexist responses to Palin as VP
Speaking as a woman, and a lifelong Democrat and somebody who has never supported Hillary Clinton in the primaries - - reading some of the posts on the progressive sites and blogs convinces me of this. There are no other words for them than ugly and hypocritical: our side, simultaneously claiming to be the side above bigotry and reducing Palin to dirty jokes or insulting her using sexist language. Remembering how the party (rightly) jumped all over any hint of racism during the primaries but ignored all the sexist b.s. thrown at Hillary Clinton by the media, I imagine that many of the party's leaders will not hesitate to do the same thing. So it won't just be us "crazy bloggers" looking like hypocritical bigots, it will be the whole party.

If the Dem establishment does this, there will be lasting, long term repercussions. Prepare for every election in the foreseeable future to include endless loops of the Dem leadership saying ugly, hateful, sexist things because they make a good soundbyte (calling Palin a "VPILF", etc.). Prepare to live with "the Democrats' problem with women voters". All that has to happen is for us to lose 5% of the female vote in a swing district to lose a house seat - - or even a Presidential election.

And another point I don't anybody's really appreciated - - the "Palin is inexperienced" argument is a double edged sword. When our side complains that McCain should have picked somebody with more experience to be one heartbeat away from the Oval Office - - it can also make us look like the hypocrites. Some voters will wonder if experience is so vitally important, why do Obama's supporters say our Presidential nominee should not be judged on his (perceived) lack of experience, but the other side's VP selection must be judged on her (perceived) lack of experience? The VP needs less experience than the President, doesn't he/she? The VP can spend up to eight years in on the job training - - an argument both sides use when they run a VP or former VP.

I know this won't be a welcome post. I know I will be flamed as a concern troll, etc. I stand by my opinion.

1. We have to focus on her political views
She's just another Bush cheerleader. I agree. Although I don't think the Mayor of a town of 6,000 or 9,000 or however many, can be compared to Illinois State government and the US Senate.

3. I agree. Obama shouldn't bring up the experience issue, but at the same time, McCain now cannot
use it as an argument against Obama.

4. Doesn't take much for the claws of sexism to come out. And we passed over Hillary, suffer the
consequences.

McCain threw everybody for a loop today. We haven't yet figured out how to respond - other than to yell, "Hillary!!! Help!!!"
