GOP Genius-Big Media Will Make Sarah Palin A Diversion - Obscure Actual Issues - Look at DU
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 05:31 PM by Median Democrat
One thing to keep in mind is Big Media, the same Big Media that talked over Democratic speakers for the first two days of the DNC. Big Media ultimately had to concede the success of the DNC due to the strong performance of the last two days and 95,000 people who were witnesses to Obama's speech. However, before that, Big Media was happily second guessing the Democrats based on trivial BS.

So, what did McCain do? He made a pick that encourages discussion of trivial bs. We claim that Palin's thin resume and extreme views are a liability. However, this actually just provides more canvass for Big Media to hype Sarah Palin to mythic proportions. Never forget Big media's bias. As we approach November, expect Big Media to try to hype Palin as champion of woman's rights and fresh ideas although her positions and beliefs are even more ancient than John McCain.

Look at DU. We are busy discussion trival BS about Palin. Adding Palin does not change John McCain. Thus, we need to keep the focus on John McCain and George Bush. Palin is just a diversion from the real issues. Big Media will endlessly play her bio again and again. However, who really gives a shit? At the end of the day, she is just another Republican adhering to pro-corporate views.

My take on Palin is that the real reason she was picked in addition to pandering to the Hillary vote, is because she is so unconventional, that it distracts from the actual issues. The GOP hopes that Big Media endlessly covers her bio, while ignoring the issues, because on the issues, she is as extreme as most Republicans if not more so.

So, my take is ignore Palin, and just attack the McCain's platform on the issues. Palin is irrelevant. In debates with her, just attack McCain, and force her to articulate his positions and defend them. Her viewpoint is largely irrelevant, because McCain is the Presidential candidate. Make her defend McCain/Bush.

2. Jeepers Creepers...
Palin as second in line for the President of the United States is a pretty frigging big issue.

Todd works for BP for 18 years..takes a leave of absence for 7 months prior to the election. Now he's a commercial fisherman, maybe still works for BP, takes care of 5 kids, and he helps out in the Governor's office?

Alaska's first gentleman has returned to work for BP on the North Slope.

Todd Palin took a leave of absence from the company in January and went back to work late last month, according to Sharon Leighow, a spokeswoman for Gov. Sarah Palin, Todd's wife.

Todd Palin took the leave to deal with a hectic schedule and help take care of the family's four children, Leighow said, and not because of any conflict of interest.

From Sean Cockerham in Anchorage --

It's not uncommon for Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd, to be included on governor's office e-mails, a fact raising questions about how much influence the "First Dude" has in state government.

Tonight on KTUU Channel 2 News, former Commissioner of Public Safety Walt Monegan broke his silence and admitted that he was pressured on numerous occasions by Todd Palin to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten.

Monegan said he met with Palin numerous times to talk about Wooten as well as Frank Bailey from the governor's office and Commissioner of Administration Annete Krietzer who also pressured him to fire Wooten.

Shadow Governor?

Coming Thursday: The Shadow Governor

In the aftermath of the Walt Monegan firing, one question keeps surfacing over and over again; why does the governor's husband, Todd Palin appear to hold so much power?

After all, Nancy Murkowski or Susan Knowles were never accused of pressuring a commissioner or inappropriately sitting in on meetings that should have been private.

The stories started last year when Representative Ralph Samuels told me about going into a meeting, he thought would be private, with Governor Sarah Palin. Much to his surprise, Todd Palin was there and proceeded to sit through the entire meeting.

Other lawmakers have shared similar stories and were shocked at how inappropriate Todd's presence was at meetings with the governor. Yesterday on the Dan Fagan Show, Representative Jay Ramras mentioned that Todd was working lawmakers offices during the ACES debate.
