Palin: No abortions unless the life of the mother is in danger; no exception for rape and incest.
McCain: No abortions unless the life of the mother is in danger or the woman is a victim of rape or incest.
Now, a doctor could certify if a woman's life is in danger, but what about McCain's exception for cases of rape and incest? How would that be handled? Who makes that determination if an exception is to be allowed? Does the rape have to be reported to the police? Does the rapist have to be caught and convicted at trial (that takes longer than 9 months most of the time)? What if the rapist is acquitted, or no suspect is ever found? Will such an exception lead to a flood of women who make bogus "rape" accusations after discovering an unwanted pregnancy for the sake of getting a legal abortion.
Palin's position is disgusting, but at least would be easier to enforce by way of police state tactics. McCain's position, on the other hand, is an administrative, bureaucratic nightmare just waiting to happen and just asking for fraud.
