What my liberal, Feminist Virginian BFF thinks about Palin as VP choice
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:52 AM by LostinVA
An email I just received from my very, very Liberal and feminist friend in VA:

"This just cemented my vote for Obama. Mccain thinks he's going to get the votes from women like me who wanted hillary as the nom, but does he really believe we're going to vote for her just because she's a woman??? I'm furious and insulted. F*&*ing son of a bitch."

2. Well stated.
I've been for Obama since the beginning, but as a woman, I'm equally insulted.

WTF are they up to? Are they really THAT stupid?

15. And Snowe and Collins would actually have helped perpetuate the myth that he is a maverick
since those two actually have been more independent than McCain.

34. This is more likely to hint at womanizing
He dumped his first wife for a prettier, younger one. Not saying that McCain's private parts played a role in this decision, but it certainly could look like history repeating itself.

Even if there is no overt sexual connection, it does go to judgment. Is this a guy who thinks with his penis?

Just sayin'

41. Collins would actually have been a strategically-sensible choice since it looks like...
she's going to be unemployed after the General Election (that is,
the Democratic candidate for U.S. Senator from Maine looks to
be the winner).

4. LOL. Thank you. And I think he picked her so Biden couldn't
attack. That's insulting, too. "Don't pick on the girl!"

Seriously, I am ABSOLUTELY that is one reason he picked her. Come on. But she's cute and has a child with Down Syndrome. Of all the low down, despicable ways to USE a woman in politics, this is the worst I have ever seen.

And OMG, Hillary will never, EVER let such a person be a heartbeat away from the presidency.

This choice reminds me of how McCain offered Cindy up to the drunken motorcycle crowd in South Dakota. He USES women.

8. It reminds me of choosing Clarence Thomas to replace the first black Supreme Court Justice.
"Here's your black guy on the Supreme Court - someone with no expertise who is against civil rights." That was brought to us by Poppy Bush.

Now this. "Here's your woman - never mind that she has no experience and is against rights for women. Aren't you girls pleased?"

22. That is why this will backfire! It's insulting, cynical and patronizing.
I swear to god, he made this hasty decision this morning, reacting to Obama's speech. He obviously thinks women are props, set dressing and interchangeable. Even he apparently believed the manufactured hype of the PUMAS, reacted foolishly, thus this will backfire. Watch yer back Cindy, we know McCain likes to trade in his wives for younger beauty queens. :puke:

AND he's a devout Catholic. I think he'll chew her up verbally and spit her out.

And, she would be a heartbeat away. God, even QUAYLE had more experience!

14. We criticize terrorists for using children as a shield, don't we?
And McFucknuts is now using Sarah "PotatoEs" Palin's four month old as one.

Shame on him. Seriously, shame the fuck on him. But moreso on her, for being so weak-minded and power-hungry to allow it.

As much as it's about exploiting the rift on the Democratic side, to keep women at home.

30. Angry, upset and on the warpath
I'm the BFF and, after lurking on DU for years, Palin is the thing that's finally made me join. I just can't believe it. I started out so excited by this election and energized by the possibility of finally having a woman for my President. Then I slowly resigned myself to the fact that it wasn't going to happen but got excited at the thought of an Obama/Clinton ticket. Then I had to resign myself to the fact THAT wasn't going to happen. Such disappointment. So to have McCain add insult to the injury by suggesting that women like me are going to vote for Palin simply based on the fact of her gender has me so angry I can barely see straight right now. And I may have to avoid the news even more so than usual because if I see one talking head treat this like it's a great thing for women my head just may explode.

28. Ditto here
I am pretty sure no one has noticed my abscence here at DU... but I was one of those pissed off Hillary voters in the primaries-- no, I wasn't a PUMA but I was seriously considering voting 3rd party, or not voting for a Pres pick.

Anyway this is the first time I have posted here in weeks.

The email the OP received from their friend is exactly the reaction I had this morning to Palin being tapped...

How DARE they think that women are so stupid that we will just flock to someone with ideology that is opposite of their own, just because they're throwing us this so called bone of a female running mate?

I don't think so--

In any event McCain's little stunt lit a fire under my ass and made me reflect on what in the hell I was thinking- sitting this election out.

I will be voting a straight Dem ticket in November...Obama supporters can thank McCain for that--if he had not pulled this stunt, I am not sure if I would have been calm enough to think rationally this soon in the game.

I am so pissed about this. The nerve of McCain and republicans to think that Palin even remotely compares to Senator Clinton. This is beyond pandering. This pick just goes to show how little republicans respect women.

Palin has no experience. She is diametrically opposed to Hillary on almost all issues. To think she can compare to Hillary and that Hillary supporters would buy it is delusional.
