I'm the BFF and, after lurking on DU for years, Palin is the thing that's finally made me join. I just can't believe it. I started out so excited by this election and energized by the possibility of finally having a woman for my President. Then I slowly resigned myself to the fact that it wasn't going to happen but got excited at the thought of an Obama/Clinton ticket. Then I had to resign myself to the fact THAT wasn't going to happen. Such disappointment. So to have McCain add insult to the injury by suggesting that women like me are going to vote for Palin simply based on the fact of her gender has me so angry I can barely see straight right now. And I may have to avoid the news even more so than usual because if I see one talking head treat this like it's a great thing for women my head just may explode.

I am pretty sure no one has noticed my abscence here at DU... but I was one of those pissed off Hillary voters in the primaries-- no, I wasn't a PUMA but I was seriously considering voting 3rd party, or not voting for a Pres pick.

Anyway this is the first time I have posted here in weeks.

The email the OP received from their friend is exactly the reaction I had this morning to Palin being tapped...

How DARE they think that women are so stupid that we will just flock to someone with ideology that is opposite of their own, just because they're throwing us this so called bone of a female running mate?

In any event McCain's little stunt lit a fire under my ass and made me reflect on what in the hell I was thinking- sitting this election out.

I will be voting a straight Dem ticket in November...Obama supporters can thank McCain for that--if he had not pulled this stunt, I am not sure if I would have been calm enough to think rationally this soon in the game.
