Bullet Dodged... clear sailing ahead
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 11:16 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
McCain could have won with Olympia Snowe, Kay Bailey Hutchison or Tom Ridge.

McCain could have kept it close with Pawlenty or Romeny.

Palin is a complete joke pick. Both irresponsible and a political loser. And an INSULT to Hillary voters on the same level as the insult to black voters in Illinois when they flew in Alan Keyes from out of state to run against Obama.

The same sort of INSULT as replacing Thurgood Marshall with Clarence Thomas.

McCain got rolled by the base, buying into their hollow threats. The nut-right can threaten all they want but when push comes to shove they would have voted against the black guy muslim terrorist anti-christ.

Some maverick!

In terms of cynical pandering to a single-issue base the equivalent move would be if Obama picked Cindy Sheehan as VP.

1. I forgot about Olympia Snowe--that would have been a HELL of a choice.

8. Maine has a Democratic governor.
Olympia is ostensibly pro-choice. He probably never considered her.

10. That would have been concerning indeed
Ridge is boring and was a bad Homeland Security head. Snowe would have been the true maverick choice to contend with.

12. I just like her. She is a very thoughtful woman and would have had
big appeal to Indies and conservative Dems.

3. Ridge would have been formidable
but McCain caved to the fundies.

6. Spot - On, when the hubbub dies down, the sober fact is she's a far-right wingnut
who will loses indies, which was McKeating5's only real hope. Puke turnout will not come close to Dems, so going after the base is a sure-fire loser.

7. I think this is
a very calculated an reluctant admission that they could NOT have won or come close with any "respectable" pick. This is very very heartening for those in mega fear that the GOP can steal the election at will. They are forced to lose their nerve and react with a daring in denial, and hoping that further tricks will keep the hot potato that is McCain dancing in the poll air.

9. Glad it wasn't romney or portman. Or huckabee for that matter. Lotta repubs really liked him.

11. Portman was considered an economic expert--Romney wasn't bad either.
I am stunned at this choice.

15. This reminds me of the far right love fest over
Fred Thompson, remember he was supposed to be the new Reagan? They're thinking with their hearts and not their heads . . . those wingnuts just love their under qualified candidates as long as they're anti-choice.

Seeing her on stage - she's in over her head.

17. That would've been fascinating
but of course if Hillary was VP McSchmuck wouldn't have picked Palin, at least I doubt it.
