Would anyone be even remotely concerned about Palin as a pick had she been a man?

I think not. She lacks experience and would be second in line to the presidency and McCain is 72 with health problems.

1. I doubt he would have picked her if she wasn't a woman

A male governor of alaska, with a minor controversy at home, with even less experieince than Obama would have brought nothing to the ticket. The only thing Palin does is bring the fact that she's a woman. It's obvious that McCain hopes to eat into that PUMA numbers.

make no mistake though, the people who voted for clinton but are not yet committed to obama (or at least weren't before the convention) adds up to 4-5% of the total vote. McCain wants to eat into some of that. I think though eh's cutting off his nose to spite his face. He might get 1-2% of the vote because of Palin, but he'll probably lose even more than that because of it.

Just seems like a boneheaded move. If he wanted to pick a republican woman there were a number of better ones avaialable (unless they turned him down...)
