Josh Marshall on Palin
So now we've learned that Sarah Palin is McCain's choice for nominee. I have to say. It's a daring pick but I think a very weak pick. I'm perfectly happy with it. Palin is in the midst of a reasonably serious scandal in her home state. Her brother-in-law is a state trooper who is in the midst of an ugly custody battle with her sister. And she's accused of getting the state police to fire him. Recently she was forced to admit that one of her aides had done this, though she insists she didn't know.

Next, John McCain's central and best argument in this campaign is that Barack Obama simply lacks the experience to be President of the United States. And now John McCain, who is a cancer survivor who turns 72 years old today, is picking a vice presidential nominee who has been governor of a small state for less than two years and prior to that was mayor of a town with roughly one-thirtieth of the citizens that Barack Obama represented when he was a state representative in Illinois.

1. Extraordinary. Ridiculous pandering.
I'm stunned. I didn't even think McCain would stoop this low. Such obvious pandering.

Jaw dropping. Don't know what else to say.

2. Did Josh really use so many sentence fragments?
I'm sure he's trying to get his thoughts out quickly, and he makes excellent point, but my english teacher would shudder!

3. The Palin pick demonstrates that Democrats are setting the agenda.
Palin will pale in comparison to Biden in every manner.

4. Chuck Todd says that the ethics charge doesn't matter
bc she will say that her brother in law was beating her sister....this day makes me embarassed to be a woman, if this type of woman appeals to ex Hillary supporters. And besides the possibility of the ticket winning , I would be seriously scared of Palin being next in line to be president...what a scary prospect.

6. Hypothetical Palin mindset?
If she tries to float that argument she's saying she was thinking "This guy was beating my sister. Nevermind going to the authorities at the time or proving it in a custody hearing. I'm gonna get him fired! That'll show him."

Well, that's credible and logical...NOT!

8. It's just fine, so long as your a republican
How long will those tactics last? They claimed to hold the moral high ground years ago and they stand up there and throw aspersions at their opponents and all of us for not lauding them.

But with Barrack Obama and Joe Biden being truly good guys, they can really redefine the dynamic of the "moral litmus test." Neither McCain and Palin will pass the sniff test of decency, and that's got to be made explicit.
