... I work evenings... sleep in the day. usually with radio or TV on. The EAS kept going off that day and when I heard tornado warning for my area... I left the house and drove to work.

My wife and son had a crappier day... my son went to the dentist, and came to school. His classroom got flooded out and since my wife was there she spent that morning mopping floors. Then the tornado warnings came and the school was on lockdown. Also someone hydraplaned into the school sign by the road.

I moved out of Michigan back in 1974 and only came back in 2003 to care for my mom. Royal Oak has really CHANGED. It was a very pleasant surprise. I can actually do one of my favorite things in Michigan now: eat in a sidewalk cafe in good weather! Amazing. And wonder of wonders ... what we did as teenagers in the late 50s is now a FESTIVAL! The Dream Cruise ... something we'd sneak out to do - cruise between Ted's and the Totem Pole - is now an event that draws tens of thousands. Bizarre.

Nonetheless, after living in Michigan, Texas, Connecticut, Alabama, New York, Washington, and Southern California, I discovered the Bay Area. It's (imho) the most perfect place to live in the country. Climate, geography, people ... can't be beat. (The cost of real estate sucks, though.) I was grateful for it every single day of the 15 years I lived there.
