Obama should at least be a decent president
This is from a strictly policy standpoint. If you were to take Obama's economic and health care plans, his foreign policy ideas, and energy proposals and look at them without knowing whose proposals they were, you could say they are decent, reasonable plans. You know that his economic plan, based on historical precedents, would do a good job of creating jobs and growing the economy. At least. So at worst, Obama would be a good president.

McCain's proposals, again from a strictly policy standpoint, are terrible. His economic plan is pure fantasy, typical supply-side BS that never works. I'll put it to you this way, the best Republican on job creation and economic growth was Ronald Reagan. The Democrat with the slowest amount of job creation and least economic growth was Jimmy Carter, and he was still better than Reagan. The best Republicans have, isn't even as good as the worst Dems have! So based on philosophy alone, McCain isn't going to be as good economically as Obama. Also take into consideration that McCain is inheriting a horrid mess. If anything, it would be a miracle if McCain didn't take a straight into a Depression in the next 4 years or so. His health care plan is just a bunch of bullet points. He can't even define what his foreign policy goals are besides war and never ending conflict.

All in all, Obama looks to be a good president, just based on his policies. While McCain would probably dig a deep hole even deeper and end up being one of the worst ever. In fact, it would probably be a miracle if he didn't end up being the worst ever.

Personalities and all that, that stuff is fine, and plays a definite role in shaping a president and how they work with others etc, but focus on that muddles what truly matters. And that's issues and good policy. Obama has solid policy proposals. McCain wouldn't know what a good policy is if it cracked him upside the head.
