Biden at Boney’s BBQ - - Worked enthusiastic crowd
Biden at Boney’s

DENVER — Boney’s Smokehouse, a venerable barbecue street vendor in downtown Denver, often has a line at lunch, but a rope line was something new. A Secret Service agent prowled in front of it on Monday just before noon, keeping reporters and camera people at bay beyond the white hemp line.

News was about to made. Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr. was coming to eat something.

Mr. Biden, wearing a dark jacket but no tie, emerged from a vehicle and began working the crowd, which to judge by the enthusiastic response was full of Democrats in town for the Democratic National Convention just across town. Mr. Biden was selected last weekend by Senator Barack Obama to be the vice-presidential running mate in Mr. Obama’s bid for the White House, and the celebrity buzz had clearly descended.

“He’s right in front of me! He’s right in front of me!” Max Loeb, 21, shouted into his cell phone. Mr. Loeb, a recent college graduate and American citizen who lives in Toronto, had come to Denver, he said, to cheer for Democrats. “It’s an historic moment,” he said. “There’s a changing of the tide.”

Other people drawn by the crowd and the sight of so many cameras, were more curious about what Mr. Biden ordered for lunch.

“Ribs – that’s the skinny,” said Scott Burnham, a consultant who lives in nearby Golden and works in downtown Denver, as Mr. Biden passed by back to his vehicle.

Mr. Biden didn’t have to wait in line for his food.

2. That's cool that he went to pick up the food himself --
he won't be able to do that very much longer.

Cute story -- thanks!!

3. Is the Vice President allowed to carry cash?
 I bet Biden is having trouble adjusting to all this!

4. If I were Biden...and I'm not...
...I'd just go for it 100%, pure and unfiltered Joe, and really lean in on the "f**k 'em if they can't take a joke" rule.

I cannot remember a single time in my life in which a U.S. president prepared to leave office with the country so thoroughly screwed in SO MANY WAYS.

I am really looking forward to seeing and hearing Biden when this shit gets HEAVY...the debates, the final walk to the polls in November.

My gut is telling me that his supporters will say "I knew he had it in him all along" and his detractors will change their tune.

6. Yes, now is the time for Biden's blunt and direct
approach. People are hungry for his kind politics.

7. I already have changed my tune...
I still have a problem with the MBNA Bankruptcy bill, but, I think he's the best fit with Obama.

8. I don't think there's any possible defense of the bankruptcy bill, but...
...that's one vote (although a very significant one) in a career, so we'll need to see what he can do right now. I agree, he's the best fit, and he's what's needed in the VP spot.

14. It wasn't the vote...
He led the charge. Still I'll stand up for him, like I said, he's the best fit I can think of.

16. It was wrong, no matter how it happened. Innocent people got BONED. He's gotta live with it.
I think that by now Biden understands what that vote meant to working people who innocently made some bad decisions.

He made a bad vote. I'll never defend him on that.

But we have bigger fish to fry. I don't care if he knows that he fucked up or if he apologizes to me.

We have bigger fish to fry, and one word I will NEVER use to define Joe Biden is "PERFECT."

11. LOL, Joes does so much good for Obama by just being himself.
I think I'll really enjoy reading the press pool reports about Joe-- I think the press will really enjoy following Joe around because he'll probably teach them about the simpler joys in life without putting them through that publicity bullshit-- not that "cutting brush" crap on a fucking country estate posing as a ranch.

13. Am I the only one who thinks that is an unfortunate name for an eatery?
Particularly if they sell half smokes.
