21. Seriously?
I really didn't know that, but maybe he's all for everyone having a private plane to get back and forth to work. McCain so out of touch with reality in America.

15. That is sad
His being the VP nominee is awesome and creats such a great ticket, but his losing his routine that has been almost daily for the last 36 years is sad. I'm sure he'll miss the trips back/forth and the people he spent time with on the trains.

When he kissed her goodbye on Saturday, then kissed everyone else. He started to leave and then turned around and kissed her one more time. My daughter and I both went "Awwww...". We totally melted.

As sad as it is to say, it's true that we never know that "this moment" might be the last time we get the chance to say I love you.

My mom get's I love you every time....she's in her 80's....

Awwww....thanks for the share!

18. I used to commute years ago
and I became very friendly with people I saw every day. I can't even imagine how close one would become after 36 years. That becomes an integral part of ones life. Wouldn't you love to talk to some of the people who dealt with him on a daily basis?

19. I'm so glad that Joe finally has his moment!
I always felt like he was the kid that got picked last on the presidential teams despite the fact that he's always used as a byword for people who namedrop-- I'm talking about ALL of the Democratic nominees (including Hillary and Obama) and also some Republicans. So I'm glad that Obama gave him a chance too.

23. After Biden dropped out of the race
I heard his words and ideas repeated over and over again by the remaining candidates. I didn't realize that back in 2004, Kerry was being coached by Biden on foreign affairs and Biden wrote some of his speeches.

29. I didn't know until recently
Kerry's advisers urged him to watch video of Biden to give him some ideas on how to communicate more effectively. Someone indicated that Kerry might have resented it a bit, not sure if that's the case, as it was just someone's opinion and can't recall where I read it.

Evidently there were those in the party who actually wanted Biden to run in 04, but Biden wanted to wait until his daughter was out of school. He had no intention of running again, but his family staged an intervention of sorts and told him he needed to run this time.

35. I hope Obama and Biden
do a train whistle stop tour at some point in the campaign. It would not only highlight Biden's not living in DC, his life story, and commitment to his family, but our need to protect and grow our mass transit.

Edited on Mon Aug-25-08 03:53 PM by tsegat01
<WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Sen. Joe Biden, the vice presidential half of the soon-to-be-official Democratic ticket, made a surprise appearance Monday at the Amtrak station he has used for years to commute to his day job in the U.S. Senate.

"These guys have been my family," said Biden, who has taken Amtrak during his 35 years in the Senate. After Senate sessions, Biden travels home almost every day to Wilmington on a train.

He visited the station with his wife, Jill, and his security detail, and he greeted vendors and travelers.>

<Jill Biden stopped at a newsstand and grabbed Newsweek magazine with a cover photo of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and Biden, flashing it at her husband.>
