Family Research Council Pissed At Cheney
Tony Perkins, head of the conservative Family Research Council, expressed disappointment with Cheney's comments.

"Unfortunately, protection of our values is made more difficult when mixed messages emanate from the White House," he told the Washington Post.

"We support President Bush's commitment to a constitutional amendment on marriage, but we are left to wonder why the vice president is allowed to depart from this position when the top of the ticket is unified on all other issues."

Gay marriage has become an issue in the November 2 presidential election with Bush supporting a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage and Democratic candidate John Kerry opposing an amendment.

Cheney's nuance has framed the issue exactly as we want it - not whether you favor gay marriage or don't, but as a matter of screwing with the Constitution.

Thanks, Dick!

1. Effing useless pantomime / sideshow that
Cheney's "rebellious" opinion on gay marriage is nothing put a fig leave for the faint-hearted Bushkissers - a token "dissent" that will have exactly ZERO impact on a hypothetical (goodness forbid!) second term.

Totally fraudulent, transparent and typical BS for the cryptofascist junta.

3. No, It Puts A Vexing Issue To Rest
One less wedge issue to deal with, more time to get to the real issues facing this country (Jesus, I'm even starting to talk like them!).

6. Do you think this is the way out for Bush...to get rid of Cheney?
maybe it is not the heart attack we thought they'll pull ... maybe they'll say "Cheney has decided to withdraw as VP due to his departing views on homosexuality"???

9. Bush Would Look A Whole Lot Less Compassionate
He'd be scaring the hell out of moderate Republicans.
