Why Am I Seeing John Kerry Ads?
On about five different channels over the course of the past week I've seen ads for John Kerry.

Why?

I'm in New York!

I don't live in a swing state.
I don't even live in a swing part of the state.

Isn't this just a big waste of money, considering how expensive advertising time is in the Metro area?

Can someone explain WHY I'm seeing these ads and what purpose John Kerry is trying to get at, spending money in places he's already assured of taking handily?

1. That is weird.
I would guess it has something to do with the GOp Convention. We have no Kerry ads in Cali

10. Those are all national ad buys that run everywhere.
When you, in New York, or I, in Montana, watch CNN, MSNBC, Comedy Central, The History Channel, and ESPN, we both see the same ads.

6. Regional media buys are weird...
Parts of Canada are included in Michigan media regions.

The same goes for most states where the media region is close to a state line.

8. yeah but, Kerry is assured or winning the entire region anyway
Except if he thinks that the NY market somehow reaches New Hampshire or rural Pennsylvania - which I'm pretty sure it does not.
