So am I. Rightly so. That bill was an abomination. But you know what? One thing I have learned is that politics is about change, and that you can change a politician's mind, even on subjects he or she has championed.

How?

By engaging them.

Because you cannot reach them by not reaching out to them.

Perhaps a DU-Gram? A petition to Biden? Something well-crafted and seriously presented, with cites and examples, pretty graphs and respectful tone and timbre?

Just a thought in passing. Might be a job for the research forum.

3. It doesn't bother me that he voted for it.
It bothers me that he voted for it because 50% of this nation's CC companies are headquartered in Delaware.

I can deal with opposing views, but I have a problem with politicians "selling" their votes. (and yes, I know that they all do it to some degree)

6. That's representing a constituency, not selling votes
Biden has no money.

He has represented the interests of the largest employer in his state. That sucks, but ever Senator does the same thing or is a one-termer.

I think ethanol is a joke, but I understand Obama's long-term support for ethanol. Illinois is 90% cornfields.

McCain has a history of opposing ethanol. That doesn't suggest he has a better understanding of energy issues than Obama. It means he represents a state with no cornfields.

Liberal congress persons from the NW probably support big military projects for Boeing, even if they're usually against military spending. And so on.

8. I posted my thoughts on the bill itself
As for him being from Delaware, it would have taken more courage to vote against it. I would have voted against it no matter where I was from since the banking industry would survive fine without it.

But he has a fine record on labor and other things regarding the working class. I'm concentrating on the positives. No VP candidate is perfect.

4. I don't like it, either, BUT..
Obama is the one running for President, and I think Biden's positives outweigh his negatives as far as the ticket winning. I do not think Biden himself would have written the bill the way it was written. Showing the independence Obama talked about, Biden thought he could help women and get something good out of the bill. I would have proposed something else altogether since the bill has many negatives, but I'm not going to cry over it too much. We must win this election.

5. Given that he's from Delaware, I can understand why he voted
for it. Now my Senator, Ken Salazar, had no excuse whatsoever.

And Biden, as VP, won't be beholden to CC companies that employ all those folks in Delaware anymore. That is a really bright spot.
