"National Gay/Lesbian group hails Biden choice"
Ironically, I got this from the Freeper site (from another thread here pointing someone to that site to see what they were saying about Obama's choice of Biden):

WASHINGTON – Today, the Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, hailed the presumptive Democratic nominee, Sen. Barack Obama’s selection of Sen. Joe Biden as his Vice Presidential running mate.

During his career in Congress, Sen. Biden has a proven record of fighting for and supporting issues of fairness and equality.

“In selecting Sen. Joe Biden as his running mate, Sen. Obama has chosen a proven and effective advocate for fairness and equality that our entire community can be proud of,” said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. “Sen. Biden’s record in the United States Senate is one of support and understanding that has been unwavering throughout his career.”

4. So do I. He's getting rave reviews even from Repubs. like Lugar and Hagel!
That should anger some McCain supporters. :D

3. I was happy
to see his record. I also like his stance on gay marriage... It's inevitable.

6. Here's Biden's position on repealing DADT:
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 05:35 PM by terrya
"I would end Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell. It is antiquated, unworkable and wrong.

I’ve been to Afghanistan. I’ve been to Iraq. Other countries - our allies serving alongside US forces in Iraq - permit open service. It has had no negative impact on force morale or the performance of our brave soldiers.

We don’t have enough troops to fulfill our current missions. But more than 300 language experts have been fired under “don’t ask, don’t tell” including more than 50 who were fluent in Arabic. More than 9,000 soldiers have been dismissed since the policy took effect in 1993. The idea that we turn away brave and patriotic Americans who volunteer to serve solely because of their sexual orientation is ridiculous and totally irrational."

This gay man, at least, is pleased with the choice of Biden.

7. Good for him...
and I'm glad you're pleased with the choice of Biden. (As a straight woman, I hope you get all the rights you should have-which is ALL of them). :hi:

10. Thank you!
I think we can accomplish some real tangible things in the next four years. That would benefit LGBT people AND this country as a whole. Repeal of DADT would bring in qualified gay men and lesbians who want to serve their country...which is good for us all.

And equality will come about in no small part because of straight people like you. :-)

12. My pleasure...
Yeah, it's going to take a LOT of us (humans) to make change. Just because something doesn't directly affect me doesn't mean I shouldn't care about it. :hi:

And protect those who are already doing so.

15. Absolutely.
Of course you're right. They are already serving their country. It's long, long due to end this ridiculous, as Biden says, discriminatory policy. And to let those gay men and lesbians already serving our country to do so openly.

that's what I meant-what's a negative for them (so they post it) is a positive for us. :)
