Could the Obama camp have sent out the texts before Secret Service covered Biden? I don't think so.

ABC's reporting on the Secret Service providing protection to Biden was when the story essentially broke. Before that no Democratic officials would confirm it. After the Secret Service was reported on, then John King was able to get confirmation from some Democratic official.

I don't think the Obama camp could have responsible sent out the text messages before that point.

I liked the frenzied build up and text message send out. Mine was time stamped 2:38 am Central Time.

I think any bitching is kind of ridiculous.

edit to add - the people I'm talking about being critical was the press, not supporters.

2. Mine was 3:32 a.m. Eastern time
The "news" was paparazzi like in their frenzy. They're the worst kind of kids at holiday time I bet

3. If people are upset about the MSM scooping a text message
it has far more to do with reality intruding in on their worldview than anything else.

6. I was listening to some reporters trying to bash the campaign for wanting to let their supporters
know first. It was "niave" to think they could get by the traditional press. I like the Obama campaigns attempt to go straight to their supporters but am not surprised by the time things were literally being implemented on the ground that the media would report on it.

I think it is all good.

Are you happy with the choice, ruggerson?

7. Absolutely
I wanted Biden for prez until he pulled out after Iowa. Then I switched to Hillary.

Joe's a great guy. I don't think Obama could have done better.

4. Overall

it was great! Obama got so much coverage, while the little coverage McCain did get was about his houses problem.

Though,if I was the guy running this text message, I'd have put it out when camera crews started following all the VP candidates around. Just me though.

Most people were asleep here except for night shift jobs and those out all night partying. It's silly to complain about the effort IMO.

10. They had to rush it
they probably wanted to do it in the morning today, but were forced to do it all after the fact because CNN and then all the other networks broke it.

I don't think the texting thing was ever about doing an end run around the MSM, though they may have framed it that way to excite supporters. I think it was about getting a lot of cell numbers for a GOTV effort in November.
