Now that it is official, I think that Joe Biden is the perfect pick for VP. I had been a bit leery of Biden, but I have taken some time in the past few days to look more closely at him, and I am really beginning to like what I see. He does have a few negatives, but his positives seem to dramatically outweigh them.
PROS:
Foreign Policy - Everyone, including the media and even the Republicans, regard him as a foreign policy expert. That perception will be critical to blunt the attacks on Obama's inexperience
"Regular Joe" - He is not wealthy, and can't be portrayed as elitist. He can appeal to the middle-class, blue-collar voters in important states like Ohio and Pennsylvania, without having to be overly conservative.
Attack dog - He is one of the few Democrats who is willing to passionately attack the Republicans, without being cast as a leftist, radical hippie. Obama can keep himself positive, while letting Biden rip into McCain.
CONS:
Iraq War - He voted for the war, and initially supported it. He did realize quickly how much of a fuckup it was, but I wonder why he didn't see how ill-advised it was from the very beginning.
Bankruptcy bill - Biden has a long history of siding with the credit card companies against the average consumer.
Verbal gaffes - He does have a tendency to speak off-the-cuff, which could get him into trouble.
