(Opinion Only) Congratulations to Senator Obama for making a strong, confident choice
Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 08:21 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Joe Biden is a good man, a smart man and a funny man.

More importantly, he has the best natural style for a National campaign of anyone in the party.

Joe will be one of the rare VPs that makes a difference.

ON EDIT: No, of course there's no announcement. But I've reached my personal critical mass of tea leaves to the point where I think it's really Biden. And rather than waiting until the holiday rush I wanted to say something nice about Obama's choice because it's the best choice of the folks who were considered and shows some courage. Biden will indeed challenge Obama's preconceptions. Joe challenges everybody on everything.

8. So now I need a source to say something nice?
We know Obama has made a choice. It just isn't announced.

I belive that choice is Biden, and I belive it is a choice worth commending.

It would be tempting to risk the election by picking a non-threatening nobody, and I am quite relieved that Obama appears to have not done that.

11. Not really. The average DU post is based considerably less evidence.
Since it's widely accepted here that it's cool to smear people until the end of time based on nothing whatsoever, it can't be so wrong to say something nice based on a strong likelihood jest because it's short of certainty.

12. Oh, I agree that there's no evidence in the declarations that people are making.
I don't see how making yet another proclamation based on no evidence would help that, however.

The "saying something nice" portion of your statement is not the portion that people are objecting to. Many are on edge, and any proclamations of inside info made this evening are likely going to be met with skepticism and, in some cases, scorn.

15. We are currently pretending that we don't know, but we really do.
We don't KNOW but we pretty much know.

Once Kaine and Bayh removed themselves from the mix this evening it became sort of silly to pretend.

I state nothing beyond my opinion, and never have, and certainly have no tried to hoax anyone.

5. Isn't this a tad premature?
But I agree, Biden is a strong choice and it probably will be him.

18. Don't forget how much his vote on the IWR meant to
the nation's military personnel and their families. Now that was certainly a demonstration of the kind of sound judgment and careful decision making I want to see in a VP. More :sarcasm:

Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 08:03 PM by MrModerate
It can lead to quite tempest in your teapot.

FTR, I think Biden's a powerful intellect and a strong heart. He hasn't been on the right side of all issues, but then, who has (me included)?

Whether he's the choice or not . . . I dunno.

17. Vonnegut and Thompson
Real faves of mine. Both died during the Bush reign.

Kind of a play on the old Emmylou Harris song "Abraham, Martin, and John"

______________

am a backseat driver from America
They drive to the left on Falls Road
And the man at the wheels name is Shamus
We pass a the child on a corner he knows
And Shamus says "now what chance has that kid got"
And I say from the back "I don't know"

He says "there's barbed wire at all of these exits"
There ain't no place in Belfast for that kid to go
And it's a hard life, it's a hard life
It's a very hard life
It's a hard life wherever you go
And we poison our children with hatred
And the hard life is all that they know

At the dairyline in Chicago
A fat man in front of me
He's calling black people trash to his children
And he's the only trash here I see
And I'm thinking this man wears a white hood
In the night when his children should sleep
But they'll slip to their windows and see him
They'll think that white hood's all they need

And it's a hard life, it's a hard life
It's a very hard life
It's a hard life wherever you go
And if we poison our children with hatred
Then the hard life is all that they know

I was a child of the sixties
When dreams could be held through tears
With Disney and Cronkite and Martin Luther
And I belived, I believed, I believed

Now I'm a backseat driver from America
And I'm not at the wheel of control
And I am guilty, I am worn, I am the root of all evil
And I can't drive on the left side of the road

And it's a hard life, it's a hard life
It's a very hard life
It's a hard life wherever you go
And if we poison our children with hatred
Then the hard life is all that they'll know

And there ain't no place in this world for these kids to go
Cause it's a hard life wherever you go

Has anybody here seen my old friend Abraham,
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lotta people, but it seems the good die young
I just looked around and he's gone.

Has anybody here seen my old friend Martin,
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lotta people, but it seems the good die young
I just looked around and he's gone.

Has anybody here seen my old friend John,
Can you tell me where he's gone?
He freed a lotta people, but it seems the good die young
I just looked around and he's gone.

Didn't you love the things they stood for?
Didn't they try to find some good in you and me?
And we'll be free
Someday soon it's gonna be one day

Has anybody here seen my old friend Bobby,
Can you tell me where he's gone?
I thought I saw him walkin' up over the hill
With Abraham and Martin and John.
