Maybe this is a question I should direct to Atrios, rather than my mother. However, after reading Glenn Greenwald's latest bit about TNR's Sacha Zimmerman concern trolling for journalism because Rachel Maddow now has her own show on MSNBC, I have to wonder--where do all of these concern trolling, bi-partisan loving, liberal-hating, ostensibly Democratic wankers even come from?

Given that there is never a shortage of Democrats willing to appear on television or be quoted in interviews about how terrible it is if liberals make even the slightest gains in elections, media or legislation, about how equally vicious partisanship from both sides is tearing the country apart, about we should just all agree with country club Republicans and the DLC, and about how utterly xenophobic the average voter really is, it is as though there is some sort of wanker industrial complex churning out a seemingly infinite supply of these pundits.

There are just so many of them. Are there farms? Do the eyes of wankers and concern trolls meet across a crowded room of angry partisans and DFH's, and are they so immediately drawn to each other for their respectful, high-minded dialogue and serious approach to bombing the living shit out of someplace in Asia that they just reproduce like rabbits? Is it like How To Get Ahead In Advertising, where working for a political periodical results in growing a new head with a personality that results in becoming a useful idiot for, and concern troll doormat to, the conservative movement?

Where do wankers come from, anyway? My parents never explained that one to me.
