Is there any VP choice that you think could sway your fundie acquaintances?
Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 03:37 PM by RiverStone
History tells us the only Democratic VP that really made an impact in an election was LBJ for JFK.

A strong majority of us here are supporting Obama regardless of his VP selection, but for those that have rightie family, friends, co-workers etc. - any hint who Obama could pic as VP that would sway the fence leaners to the Dem ticket? Those indie and soft rightie votes in the middle will decide this election.

And I know a few disaffected rethugs who voted for Shrub last time, but finally are having reservations about continuing their lock-step march. They seem to like Webb and Clark, though an ex-career military VP seems unlikely.

Who do you think the red turning purple folks prefer as Obama's VP?

15. Progressive Dems may not like it, but Obama must play to the middle to win
If pigs could fly, I'd like to see Kucinich on that list. But now it is about winning and saving the SCOTUS from f@cking with our personal liberties for the next generation.

Winning the GE has to take precedent above all other considerations. I don't like it, but it is the reality.

17. Brian Schweitzer. He's Catholic, he speaks plainly, and he has the NRA's approval.
I know a few weak Repubs who would rather vote for a ticket with Schweitzer on it than for McCain.

19. We've been at this awhile but I'm afraid our arguments will fall on deaf ears
Schweitzer is the one guy who would have substantial appeal to our target audience (the undecideds, blue collar workers, independents, military personnel who aren't ideologically conservative, moderate Democrats and Republicans, farmers, ranchers, and others like them who make up that 10 to 15% of the elecorate in between progessive and conservative base who split the vote almost evenly). Win these folks and you win the election. Nobody who's been mentioned has the same authenticity--Webb might be close, maybe even Kaine or Sebelius or even Clark (although none of these individuals are as people friendly), but Biden, Bayh, and Clinton don't get you there.

individual than a specific position? I would want a VP with as broad as an appeal as possible. Schweitzer, like Clark, would appeal to a broad spectrum of voters, from liberal to conservative.

Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 04:42 PM by MercutioATC
Personally, I believe that voters want candidates they feel listen to and understand them more than they do some kind of intangible "experience".

Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 04:48 PM by Skwmom
And who pushed the experience meme? The corporate media, the RNC, and the gang of Clinton. You would think that would be a clue that - hey, maybe this isn't such a great idea.

Sorry, but I am just so tired and frustrated with the absurdity of it all. Have they put something in the water? What has happened to independent thinking?

The VP will be used to define Obama so why in the heck would he pick a Washington Insider who voted for the biggest debacle in U.S. history and sold out the middle class. I hope he's smarter than that.

if she is picked watch out. My bosses went on and on when i first met them in Dec when they bought hotel i work at about clintons and murder. I think the far right ones really believe it and will try harder to vote for mccain if she is in there. Other people i think alot of them just might stay home as they don't really like mccain.

no offense, cause I think we will win in November.

But if Hillary will make the Republicans come out in full force, just wait till you see the ads that are gonna be run in the fall against Obama.

I think alot of posters on DU need to get a grip on reality. Their irrational hatred for Hillary blinds them to Republican tricks.

And he's goes to Arizona (from Wisconsin) each winter, and he has many, many repug friends who like Clark a whole lot. I'm obviously biased as a die hard Clarkie, but I am telling the truth here. Clark would make a difference, count on it.

34. NO. We don't need to worry about fundies. They will NEVER vote Dem
The ones who WILL vote Dem do so because of their jobs.

The ones who vote based on their "values" would never vote for a Dem. Much less a black man or a woman.

Let's not worry about them.

By the way, if you are a Dem on this board, you aren't a Fundie.

You might be a Christian, but you aren't an intolerant fundie.

You are following the example of Jesus. LOVE.
