3. His name has been talked about locally for a while. The nationals just picked it up

He was recommended by Pelosi when Obama asked if there were any Representatives who might be qualified. There have been a couple of articles on him being considered. I think the nationals are just digging for any new angle on this, and re-discovered his name.

If Obama chooses him, it's a definite signal that he plans to campaign on his own strengths, in his own way. It's a sort of "I am the party" message. I'd be surprised, but it would certainly make everything interesting.
