Carl Bernstein on CNN thinks Biden and Clinton were the two top finalists,
but he seems to think it's Biden.

I hope he's wrong about that. But at least he's aware of the reasons Clinton should heve been a finalist. Unlike some people here...

1. Obama's description of who he picked fits either one of them.

16. Yup. I'd be very happy with either one of them. Clinton especially.
Oh I hope it is one of those two. I'm really not sure about Bayh at all.

4. That's pretty much where I am.
I can see the Obama team throwing-out all sorts of curveballs to keep people guessing. "Sources" claiming that Hillary wasn't vetted.. Biden saying publicly that he's not the one..

Obama has played this brilliantly. :P

11. My top two as well. I really like Biden. But with what the polls are showing, I have to hope it's
Clinton, and not just because I like her even more than Biden.

13. I agree. And I really would prefer Biden as SoS anyway.
And contrary to all the naysayers Hillary would make an excellent Veep.

14. Stop reading so much into polls...
Those polls do not take this into account: if the shoe was on the other foot, Hillary would likely be doing worse right now than Obama. Know why? Because his supporters would feel just as angry as her supporters feel about having the nomination "stolen" from them. That anger is not reflected in a poll where THEIR GUY won the nomination, so they have no problem saying they'd vote for Clinton. But if the roles were reversed, plenty of them would be hostile, just like her most ardent supporters.

15. Not Clinton
Edited on Fri Aug-22-08 12:19 PM by rjx
Clinton would make the ticket more popular within the Democratic party, but Obama doesn't need that as much as he needs to increase popularity within the Independents and the Republican leaning swing vote.

Independents and Republicans have a negative opinion about Clinton. What they want is more foreign policy experience and over-all Washington experience. And with McCain blasting Obama on experience, especially with the Georgia-Russia conflict, Obama needs to silence McCain as much as possible regarding experience. Even though it's the wrong kind of experience, McCain seems to have the upper hand (right now).

So with Biden's 36 years in Washington and being the chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, he would provide more of a over-all boost than Clinton would. Biden would appeal to Republicans and Independents more so than Clinton.

90% of the vote is already spoken for. McCain and Obama are competing for the last 10%. IMO Clinton would not help Obama at all and she could even hurt his chances. Obama doesn't need help with the Hispanic vote, and the female Clinton supporters are supporting Obama more as time time goes on. And imo that should improve more after Clinton's speech at the convention.

My sleepers are Richardson or Hagel.
