Alter thinks it's Biden and it's tonight. <-- Update: NOT tonight
Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 05:37 PM by nsd
link

Jonathan Alter: I have no inside information and may be wrong, but my best guess is that Joe Biden will be Barack Obama's choice for vice president for some of the very reasons that were thought to disqualify Biden. I also think the choice will be announced via text message to Obama supporters during the Olympics tonight. With more than 30 million people watching NBC, tonight would be the ideal time to break into coverage of a less important Olympic event with the news. Obama has booked a location on Saturday morning in Springfield, Ill., to appear with his running mate and the campaign needs 36 hours to make preparations. Besides, Friday is generally the day to bury news, not release it.

UPDATE: The article was just updated to remove the prediction of an announcement tonight.

Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 05:08 PM by RollWithIt
Plus the guy is a foreign policy stud and most of his positions have been left of center when it comes to Iraq.

I think the real bonus for Biden is his ability to chew up Republicans on national television. Can you imagine him in the VP debates? Unless the questions were completely ridiciulous, he'd clean the floor with his opponent every time.

Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 06:08 PM by Skwmom
the kind of experience that has led to him being called Mr. MBNA, the kind of experience that led him to vote for the "let's screw the little guy" bankruptcy. This country can't take any more of that kind of experience.

I'll take our worst dem on their worst day over their best repig at their finest.

This divisive claptrap is bullshit. The corporate media doesn't give a shit who Obama picks, as long as they can garner ratings and dollars from it.

Edited on Thu Aug-21-08 06:11 PM by Skwmom
who is sitting a heartbeat away from the presidency when they have billions on the line? The corporate branch of the Democratic party is what has divided the Democrats and screwed this country.

Furthermore, the Clintons could fill a book on how to divide a party.

16. This comment bears repeating..........
The hype is at its peak, and I believe that if the "choice" isn't someone really BIG - like Hillary, Gore, etc. - then the whole orchestration will backfire. Obama has lost a lot in the polls since August 1 - we need to start ramping it up and defining McSame!

58. I Believe Biden Can RAMP As Good Or Better Than Most! To Me I
don't care if it's tonight OR Saturday... I'm fine with it and really think Biden is the BEST choice for now. I once felt Richardson might be okay, but now I feel he "goes along to get along" and that makes me uncomfortable.

Richardson is VERY ambitious, but Richardson looks out for himself in a pinch. Just how I see it. He might be good for the Latino vote, but it won't make me happy. And that's not a racist comment, I have no problem with ANY minority race and never have.

I presume there will be 1 Vice Presidential Debate, they have been in recent elections. Biden would eat any contender the Republicans wish to put forward a new asshole but it would be particularly pleasing to watch him do it to Liberman.

One can only hope.

56. My Choice For Some Time Now... He CAN Be The Attack Dog & Isn't
afraid to do THAT job! I think I posted earlier that Biden probably won't run for POTUS again, a point another Du'er stated before, and therefore can be a "more sympathetic" DICK Cheney... whose has NO HEART!!

Plus Biden has been around D.C. for a long time and most likely has a LOT of inside information, some that McLooney won't like! Biden doesn't back down easily and despite voting for some bills I don't like, I think he handled himself VERY WELL during the Primary Debates. I also think he's "had it" with what has gone on these past eight years and is willing to let his voice be heard and has decided "enough is enough!" At least that's what I've seen of him lately. Should Obama win, maybe by 2012 or with luck 2016, the Democrats "might" grow some "spine" by then and be ready to have a strong candidate in the wings.

I know some think he's a loose cannon, but I also think he knows what's at stake! Obama is the candidate and his handlers will probably voice any concerns to him.

If it's Biden, then I can support the ticket, he has a LOT of experience to bring to the table!!!!

JMHO!
