Here's a surprise: Ohio voting machines in error in primaries.
The maker of the most widely used touch-screen voting machine in Ohio has acknowledged the machines have a programming error that led to votes being dropped in the March primary.

Premier Election Solutions Inc. notified Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner (BROO'-nur) in a letter this week.

The company said the programming error led to votes being dropped in at least 11 of the 44 counties that used the company's machines in the March election. The company previously argued that the problems were caused by antivirus software complications.

maybe not as bad...remember that was the state that was going to be the one that would pick the president for 2004 and the Ohio election was run by repugs...

3. Antivirus? Are they insane?
You don't need antivirus on a closed system. Is some one using the voting machines to surf the web, or download warez? An antivirus is just an overcomplication that opens up the system to manipulation because an antivirus has to be updated constantly to be of any value. So with the update to antivirus they can sneak any anything.

10. Take a guess.
Where do these "unfortunate accidents" usually happen?

12. Might be a clue: "Nearly half of voting machines tested fail" (Montgomery County-ie Dayton)
Nearly half of voting machines tested fail

Montgomery officials tested the 5% of machines that drew complaints; 56 of those 125 machines failed.

DAYTON — After two days of tests, the results are in: About 2,500 people cast ballots in November on 56 malfunctioning electronic touch-screen voting machines in Montgomery County, said Steve Harsman, county board of elections director.

He said it is impossible to know how many people finalized their electronic ballots without realizing that the Diebold Elections Systems machines were inaccurately registering their votes. But people had three chances to review their votes before finalizing them, and all the machines accurately tallied the votes that were finalized by voters, Harsman said.

On Tuesday, county election officials completed testing of 125 machines identified in voter complaints collected by Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, which called for the investigation. Some 2,530 voting machines were used in the county on Election Day.

Harsman said several malfunctioning machines were clustered at certain precincts, indicating they may have been damaged during delivery by a trucking company that hauls the machines to the polls.

5. As a Resident of Ohio...
I wont worry as much about the elections in Ohio now that we have a good honest Democrat as SOS. I have met Jennifer Brunner personally and I have even expressed to her my concerns over the 2004 presidential election in Ohio.

Now we still have to worry about the voting machine manufacturers.

6. The number of votes involved was not immediately available.
It doesn't say what counties either. It should be interesting to see the final data.
