The RNC Will Feature All the Colors of the Snowstorm

Kudos to John McCain. He's making certain that this year's Republican National Convention is a veritable rainbow of "diversity," stretching all the way from ivory to eggshell, with a little cream in there for extra diversityishness...

"I think one of the things that is important, especially for John McCain, as unique a politician as he is, is to demonstrate the diversity and differences of ideology I would say of our party," Davis said.

"I think one of the things that people forget about is we are not a very monolithic as a party. We really want to show some of that."

It's so true! We do tend to forget the non-monolithicness of the GOP. Why, they don't just have caucasian males as elected officials in their party. They also have... other... kinds of people. Let's look at some of the people who are speaking...

Like, Joe Lieberman! He's not just a white man! He's a white Jewish man! And he's a Democrat! Well, not really a Democrat. Not anymore. But he's Democraty. There's definitely a certain ineffable Democratishness to him.

And then there's Rudy Giuliani. He's Italian. And that's kind of not white in a way.

Or how about Dick Cheney? He might not be black, but his soul is. That's something.

Oh, I forgot all about Laura Bush! She's a white woman... And she's not an elected official. How's that for diversity?

1. I posted this in another thread
This time - they're at least being honest about what they consider to be diversity.

At their 2000 convention, they were having different nights to showcase different ethnic groups' support for Bush. The Black Gospel choir they had on African-American night was only there so they could be on television according to the leader, and I met the Hispanic kids they had up on stage - they were Mexican nationals living in Juarez who went to the University of Texas in El Paso (UTEP has a program that lets Juarez students cross the border easily to attend classes). They were approached by the Bush team and asked if they would like to go to Philadelphia on an all expenses paid trip to learn more about the American political system. They of course said yes, got bussed (not flown) to Philly, and trotted up on stage when W's Latino nephew, George P. introduced them.

2. Hey, I read somewhere that there are at least 3 delegates to the GOP convention...
who don't belong to any country club and own only one home. But two of those three own a "vacation place" that they say is not really a second home.
