Eisenhower's granddaughter announces she's leaving the GOP

Writing for the National Interest online, an internal Republican Party publication, Susan Eisenhower made the announcement.

Instead she will be an independent because she said: "The GOP (Republican party) of today bears no resemblance to Lincoln, (Teddy) Roosevelt or Eisenhower's Party, or many of the other Republican administrations that came after that."

She said "My decision came at the end of last week when it was demonstrated to the nation that McCain and this Bush White House have learned little in the last five years.

"They mishandled what became a crisis in the Caucuses, and this has undermined US national security."

17. I seem to recall Susan's father writing an essay of maybe 20 reasons he was not voting for junior
in 2004. My wife should be proud that her 4th(2) and 5th(1) cousins are no longer blinded by the right. :P

4. Creating news to highlight her points. Like highlighting as sabre-rattling, not policy savvy.

6. I love Ike and thanked Teddy Roosevelt for
all those National Parks I saw and camped in from New York to Georgia and back again in the last two weeks.

Susan Eisenhower and Senator Jim Jeffords are at least two American citizens who know they don't want to be associated with what the republican party has morphed into.

9. Wow. This is big.
They finally figured out that the economic-minded motivations behind the GOP's policy making is making us less secure.

12. Sounds like a good idea to me.
I have no idea if she can give a speech, but it would be kinda cool to have an Eisenhower speak, or even be present, at our convention.

14. Maybe the wise words of her grandfather had something to do with it:
" In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military/industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist.

We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together."

15. I'd be careful announcing such a thing. The neo-cons will make her pay
in one way or another.

16. The neoconservatives have taken over the republican party.
The GOP is no longer a legitimate political party, but a threat to America and to the world. They must be stopped at all costs.
