Mr. Wuhl does a comedy take on history and he focuses on the idea that much of history is a revision of truth to create a national narrative.
http://www.hbo.com/events/rwuhl/The basic premis is that history is a result of a process wherein the culture waits till the myth becomes legend and then prints the legend. In other words, a lot of shit is just made up out of whole cloth.
The thread on the two Congressmen who are exposing McCain's theatrics about MIAs is a perfect example of this type of creating a national narrative based on falsehoods.

I read them with disgust because Obama is trying to change the rules of the game. These Congressmen are doing exactly that too. They are imploding the myth. It is important for us, at this time of all times in history, to make certain that what becomes printed in our history books will be based on truth and not legend imbued with all the vapors and smoke brought with time. We need to be clear-eyed about our journey forward and be willing to go forward armed with truth. You don't get to that point by not insisting on truth about the opposition and about our side as well. It is the only way we will clean out the corruption at the heart of our nation.
