Obama Should Clearly State That He Will Not Restore The Military Draft
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 10:50 PM by Better Believe It
if he is elected President.

Period.

No wishy, washy statement that is subject to different meanings. No if's, and's or but's. Just "McCain wants to draft you for the many wars he wants you to fight for him and I won't."

He should do it now, in his nomination acceptance speech and in major TV spots.

This should be a major theme in his campaign and Obama should go after McCain on this issue over and over again.

McCain wants a draft because he needs hundreds of thousands of troops for all the wars he wants to fight and win against nations he doesn't like including Russia.

Say that. Again, and again and again.

It's the truth.

And Obama .... please don't ever tell us again what a fine patriot John McCain is .... one who doesn't play politics with military and national security issues.

Not unless you want to lose this election.

1. I agree. And make McCain explain how he will fight wars in Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, etc.
without a draft.

McCain's the supposed foreign policy expert, I'm sure that he has the specifics ready...not.

10. Read "Rebuilding America's Defenses" by PNAC.
This is where the neocons get the idea that fighting wars in more than two theatres will be necessary...

They will need the draft, but they will need enabling Democrats in BOTH houses to pass such legislation...

3. If Russia starts throwing bombs at more bloc countries there's NO WAY he can make that promise
and he shouldn't.

4. Hoof Hearted, definitely agree...
just promise no unwarranted wars.

Promising no draft could be equivalent to George Senior's, "read my lips, no new taxes."

So you want renew the draft so we can be prepared to fight Russia?

I don't want millions of young people drafted so they can be used by the United States government to spread the new western imperial empire.

Here's news for you.

6. No, that's the best way to ignite the "Dems are weak on defense & security" crap
I don't want to see a draft, but that doesn't mean the option should be taken off the table by a presidential candidate. I can't see the future and neither can he (or you.)

7. Why Do You Think Obama May Renew The Draft?
Well, he might very well do that.

If Obama wants to engage us in more war he will certainly do that.

I hope not.

And perhaps he voted for FISA because he wants those police and spying powers as President.
