I was never in favor of Hillary as the VP choice, but I have changed my mind
Edited on Wed Aug-20-08 03:17 PM by nomad1776
I had two main reasons why I didn't want her as VP

1) She respresented more change (which Americans are not all that comfortable with) since she would be the first woman VP to go with the first non white President

2) She would rile up the Right Wing Nuts.

Now I have seen the Right Wing Nuts attack Obama with their usual lustful zeal. So I have seen that number 2 is going to be a non-issue.

That left we with reason number 1. Well I have noticed there are many die hard Hillary supporters that refuse to let go. I am now thinking that the few people that would be lost because of the drastic change an Obama/Clinton ticket would mean, would be more than offset by bringing the Hillary supporters back into the fold.

Now feel free to flame away. Just be warned that it will do you little good, as I have given this matter considerable thought and didn't arrive at this conclusion lightly.

You are not alone. It's a building consensus and you will be vindicated.

It's going to be Hillary and it will be a great thing. :hi:

But the decision's already been made.

27. It certainly looks like something organized, I find that sad ... as many of these
"DU members" have over a thousand posts. It's not believable that they don't see all the repeated threads, so it must be coordinated at least in mind set, and that mind set is destructive. (And fruitless).

13. I have been a die hard Obama supporter
as such, I am not someone that can be accused of pushing for my candidate even in defeat. Nor am I someone that was easily persuaded to support an Obama/Clinton ticket. So I think my thoughts have some distinct merit. Still I guess if you want to be irrational about it, you could accuse this thread of being part of some tinfoil hat Google-Bomb plot.

You may have been around here for a while, but that won't stop people from attacking you as a disruptor or "bad Democrat" or PUMA or whatever other unimaginative/freeperesque/"get-in-line" thing they can come-up with.

11. I've warmed up to Hillary too...
A lot of the reasons people attacked Hillary can be equally attributed to Biden. Therefore, if I can't have my first tier Clark, Richardson, or Schweitzer---I would think Hillary a fine choice.

All the fear of Bill is overdone in my view--I think he can be kept occupied with his foundation work and Hillary would be an asset in getting health care through the congress.

The party would be unified and fired up as well---

15. I suggest you go back and google search my GDP posts
you will find I have been a die hard Obamam supporter. You will also find I did not want Hillary as the VP. So this would have to be another tinfoil hat theory. I have to admit I am a little frightened at the rash of irrational thoughts being developed on this board. Admittedly after Obmama clinched the nomination I didn't post here all that much (preferring the lounge) but damn.

16. Major e-mailing campaign came out today and yesterday
Published:Wednesday, August 20, 2008

Scripps Howard News Service

WASHINGTON — A massive e-mail and Internet campaign is under way aimed at derailing the nomination of Barack Obama and making Hillary Clinton the party’s standard bearer next week at the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

“It’s downright nasty,” said Memphis, Tenn., superdelegate and city council member Myron Lowery, who has shared dozens of the messages he’s received with The (Memphis) Commercial Appeal newspaper.

“I think it’s divisive for the ‘Support Hillary’ campaign to continue at this time. She made the decision to fully support Mr. Obama,” said Lowery, who initially supported Clinton but later switched his allegiance to Obama. “I don’t know why they’re not taking their cue from Hillary and falling in line.”

Lowery said he does not believe Clinton herself is behind the effort, but that it’s “her supporters, acting on their own because they’re proud of what they have done for her.”

God, I wish I could find someone in real life willing to bet $5000 that she's going to be the VP. I'd make so much damn money.

whoever will do him the most good. If it's Hillary, fine by me.

I like Biden because he'd be a good attack dog. IF Hillary can pull that off, good for her.

I just want this over. I am getting very stressed out. McCain really creeps me out and I want Obama in the White House so bad I can taste it.

20. Pros and cons
There's lots of hard feelings from the primary, but putting those aside, would she be the best choice?

Pro - She'll get a lot of press. She is good with a soundbyte. She knows her stuff. She can attack. She has her share of strong supporters and they don't completely overlap with Obama voters.

Cons - lots of Independents and Republicans people still hate her. She might be the issue instead of Obama or the economy etc. The videos of her saying McCain was more qualified than Obama. She and Bill would be loose cannons or at least uncontrollable and unpredictable during the election. Same after the election.

Do the pros outweigh the cons? Is there anyone else whose pros more outweigh their cons? The answer to that is above my pay grade.

23. She would bring that one thing none of the others could
the splintered Dems who would otherwise not vote. Take that one out of the equation and I think she still could stack up well against the other options. I would consider Clark to be the only one with a better ratio.

Must this be brought up.. it's a GIANT smokescreen and Obama will bring out a VP nominee we won't have expected!

If Obama says we won't be surprised, we'll have to be NOT surprised according to Obama's personality!
