Her name is Jill Dougherty
She's the one who so righteously and fiercely jumped in after Cleland's blockbuster appearance and made the absent repugs' argument for them.
Here's an older picture and bio.

Jill Dougherty is CNN's Moscow bureau chief. Named to this position in 1997, she has covered many significant news events for CNN from the region, including the country's economic crises, the presidency of Boris Yeltsin, the election of Vladimir Putin and the sinking of the nuclear-powered submarine Kursk.

Before her appointment as Moscow bureau chief, Dougherty was a CNN White House correspondent from 1991-1996. In this position, she reported on presidential activities at home and abroad, including the 1992 and 1996 presidential campaigns and the historic peace agreement between Yitzhak Rabin and Yasser Arafat in 1993. She traveled with Presidents George Bush and Bill Clinton, covering events that included NATO summits and meetings with Russian President Boris Yeltsin. On temporary assignments in Moscow, she reported on the 1991 coup, the 1993 attack on the Russian White House and the civil war in the former Soviet Georgia.

Dougherty joined CNN as a Midwest correspondent in 1983, working out of CNN's Chicago Bureau. In 1986, she was awarded a Benton Fellowship in broadcast journalism at the University of Chicago.

In addition to her work for CNN, Dougherty has been a correspondent for WMAQ-TV in Chicago and has done freelance assignments for National Public Radio and TIME magazine. She began her career as a broadcaster and writer for Voice of America, U.S.S.R. Division.

Dougherty earned a bachelor's degree in Russian language and literature from the University of Michigan.

10. My comment here-sent to CNN:
I have to ask:
Is she a CNN employee or does she work for the RNC? When she made the RNC case today, after no one from the Bush-Cheney campaign had the guts to face Max Cleland's righteous anger, she went FAR beyond the stance of an objective reporter.
I thought that, if a partisan side went AWOL on an issue, it was not up to a supposedly objective reporter to present their tarnished case.
I know your ratings are poor, but if this person is CNN's idea of a Correspondent, then you deserve the ratings you are currently enjoying.
Is Candy Crowley now recruiting all your 'reporters' to her "COMMENTATOR" school of reportage?

6. I wasn't watching but, it seems to me that all of CNN's White House
correspondents are Bush lovers. They don't report they repeat.

7. I really wanted to smack her...
Just as the Cleland interview was winding down, and before they cut her off for another story, she flat out said that what the Kerry campaign was doing was WRONG. I had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Sheeez, I really couldn't believe my ears. What a piece of scum.

I hope she gets reaped by one of those hay-bailers in that mocked-up, faked out farm scene she's standing in front of! :argh:

8. She's a freaking HAG
They started using that woman recently (I believe this week) and she seems very pro-bush.

Has anyone else noticed that CNN and others seem to be hauling a bunch of differnt people out of the woodwork to do their WH correspondance?

I wonder if they are having trouble keeping people in place that bush will allow at his press conferences?

11. Dear CNN,
I can't tell you how delighted I was to See Jill Daugherty come on immediately after that craven coward Max Cleland and so righteously and fiercely defend President Bush and deliver the arguments I'm sure he would have given if he hadn't had to stay inside to look after Barney. Boy, did she have the fire in her eye, and in her belly too, I'll bet. Our president doesn't have a thing to worry about from those Kerry people as long as we have patriotic Americans like her standing guard.

12. My letter
Edited on Wed Aug-25-04 02:12 PM by WilliamPitt
As a journalist, I was appalled to see Ms. Dougherty's bit after the Cleland press conference in Texas. It took me a full two minutes to realize I was not listening to a Bush campaign representative, but was listening to a 'reporter.'

As a journalist, and in these sad and hard times, I personally feel that it has never been more important to be good at what I do. The display I saw on your network today was a sorry example of a dismal truth: Too many would-be reporters aren't interested in being good at their jobs.

Do better, please.

Very sincerely,

William Rivers Pitt

13. Here's mine:
"Was Jill Dougherty under the mistaken impression that she was subbing for Bob Novak on Crossfire with the coverage she gave of the standoff at Bush's ranch? It's not her job to be an advocate for ANYONE in this capacity. Shame on her on shame on CNN."

18. I'll give it a shot.
Her voice was shrill and strident. I think the veins on her forehead were standing out.
"The Bush-Cheney campaign would argue that all 527 ads should be done away with. They would argue that blah blah blah"
Basically all the repuke talking points. I specifically remember the part about "they would argue".

Well lady, let THEM argue it. Not your job.

23. Here is mine...its really rough

I have never seen more shill, incompetent “reporting” of the news in all my life.

We have Judy Woodruff with the famous, “Some people say…” garbage when confronting a Democrat. And now, “Bush and Cheney would argue” from Jill Dougherty! Reporting the news isn’t about arguing. It’s about doing the goddamn story.

If Senator Cleland hand-delivering a letter to George W. Bush was worthy of coverage that is fine, but why does editorial diatribes, insinuations, and opinions have to be laced in nearly every word?

The Republicans have the money, the power, the White House, the Senate, The House, the Judiciary, and the media. They tell us that Democratic ideas are “out of the mainstream” and would be rejected, but even with the value of a free pass from willing media whores like CNN somehow this President can’t seem to poll ahead of John Kerry. This President is unwilling to talk about his record in anything other than platitudes (“I’m gonna defend Amurrica if I need to”). He blathers that about and you people gush like he is a poet laureate.

No matter how much slime is tossed at John Kerry, no matter how many times the “mainstream” media will trot out Rush Limbaugh, Joe Scarborough, Dennis Miller, or Mike Savage to “disseminate” the news (this isn’t to include Fox’s obvious bias), no matter how much editorializing the media does this President still can’t find a way to gain the lead?

But I admire you keeping up the good fight. You and the ever consolidation of media within the corporate power structure will destroy the once-great press we had. I don’t know if Kerry can do anything about it, but right now I’m going to express my distaste for your pandering garbage you couch as news.

There are tons of real news stories out there, but you people are just too damn lazy to do any work for them. Just keep the same tired crap going, parroting Republican talking points, line your pockets, appease the corporate establishment, and sellout our nation. The media is arguably the most important institution in our democracy. It doesn’t matter who is in the White House, it is YOUR duty to objectively tackle the news, good, bad or ugly. You have become an editorial armchair of a political establishment.

If Upton Sinclair worked for CNN today, we’d still be eating rat shit.

Good day.

Kevin W******

26. Thanks...I was pissed.
I could have done better. I think there were a couple run-on sentences and my lash out was short on specific examples.

But the “feel” of CNN has just about ended it for me with these people. I can barely stomach their fare it is so biased.

The Upton Sinclair was dead-ass balls on accurate. While CNN whores are fishing for juicy bullshit stories there are people out here losing their lives…the Republican frauds in Congress rewrite laws to limit individual bankruptcy (most due to health care crisis) and you see corporate establishments declaring bankruptcy all the time.

You have corporations with a front seat at the Bush Vaudeville Act…as worker rights and environmental protections are sacrificed on the altar of greed. You have a nation awash in corruption, scandal, and hatred.

You have a world community who just 6 years ago thought we were the true beacon for the rest of the world, oral sex notwithstanding. NOW? We are a freaking disgrace. And you can only say, “Screw France” a few times.

We have Agriculture Policy that reinvents conservation easements to mean “handouts” to factory farmers while American’s smaller, family farm is grounded into dog shit on the altar of “efficiency”

We have the biggest budget deficit in history, 1000 dead troops based on lies, an administration that is selling out every fucking resource we have (TO INCLUDE our children) so the chosen few may amass even greater wealth.

We have a small group of like-minded, well funded, and organized zealots who wish to disenfranchise a group of people who are attracted to other people of the same sex while pushing their theocratic visions of cultural fascism onto anything that moves.

And this is just what I can think of right now…All this (and more) and these fucking hacks at CNN chose to “entertain” us with National Enquirer style “news.”

They should be ashamed at themselves at selling out our great nation, the bastards.
