Obama To Appear with VP in Springfield

19 Aug 2008 02:53 pm

It's now official: Barack Obama's first appearance with his will appear with his vice presidential choice will be in Springfield, Illinois, at noon CST on Saturday, according to an Obama aide.

I'm fairly certain it'll be his first appearance with the pick, but not 100% sure.

That means that the official announcement will probably come the night before in the form of a text message to supporters. Maybe it'll come that morning.

As always, all reporting on this comes with a caveat: things could change.

Of the Springfield event, an Obama spokesman said: "It's the kickoff of our trip into the convention." From there, on to unspecified swing states, and then to beautiful Denver.

1. That would seem to rule out Kaine and Bayh...
If you're looking for your pick to win you a state, your first appearance with him should be in that state.

Oh Obama campaign, you are so clever with the diversions.

13. I don't think you're reaching - Clark was born there.
And I'm not sure geography matters anyway; they're doing it in Springfield because that's where Obama started his campaign. :hi:

19. Last week
There was a flurry of speculation about Bayh and, to a lesser degree, Roemer.

11. Isn't it just as possible that
he wants to make his first appearance with his VP choice in his own home state?

6. That's where Obama started his run and it was
a historically significant site. I think this is a great place to have this.

14. I had a dream the other night that he chose Max Cleland.
The fact that I'm dreaming about potential VP nominees tells me I'm spending too much time on DU lately. x(

17. Duh, think about it
It's exactly what I expected him to do because everyone is watching his travel schedule. This way, everyone's in the mix and he's simply going to his own home state and kick off point to announce.

18. Springfield Is Where Obama Kicked Off His Campaign
And I'm surprised no one noticed how close it is to St. Louis and a very important "battleground state". Could a certain Senator, who was a very early Obama supporter, been quietly vetted and be the pick? What the hell...it's a silly season game, and sounds like we'll know sooner than later".

BTW...Hillary was from Park Ridge...those folks don't like being called Chicagoans.
